Dick made a low hum, thinking as he passed a slower van and maneuvered out of the way of a pushy SUV. He narrowed his eyes through the helmet visor. "Then things are even more difficult. We can take the report, we can look for evidence, try to track down witnesses, but time makes it much less likely to gather the evidence we need to dig up suspects and warrants. Most of those crimes unfortunately go into a file drawer and never see day again unless something gets tied to them later. Then again, we've had some go back through and manage some leaps of logic that ended up getting an arrest ten years after the fact." He'd solved quite a few of those, with the mask and with a badge. "Fact is if it's unreported, there's no chance of it being solved and officers aren't as equipped to stop it from happening again. Cases like that will rarely get the justice they need, but sometimes all we can do is stop it from happening again to someone else." And sometimes when the law can't do anything for lack of evidence even when everyone knows, someone in a mask goes out and delivers due punishment.
