His whole body went still. The speaker had resumed his presentation, but the voice was distant and hollow as Bruce's mind focused entirely on the phone in his hand. Pushing out of his seat so forcefully that the room went quiet again, Bruce tried to keep his voice even, and prevent it from dropping into a lower register.
"Go to place I last saw you in my bed. I'll meet you there."
Turning to the room, he took an exaggerated glance at his watch. "Sorry gentlemen, family emergency. It's getting late, anyway." He looked at his business manager. "Lucius, wrap things up for me, would you?" Without waiting for an answer, he strode out, breaking into a jog the moment he was through the door.
