BREAKING NEWS: PRESS CONFERENCE Who: Pepper Potts (Open to reactions or questions if anyone wants to) NPCs: Reporters, etc. When: May 10th (backdated) Where: Stark Industries What: Press Conference following Tony's arrest
Pepper didn't usually do the press conferences, just set them up and made sure Tony and all the important parties were where they were supposed to be, when they were supposed to be there. This was the first time she'd written a speech for herself to deliver, and to the largest crowd she'd ever seen. Her stomach was already churning, and she felt even more nauseous as she took the podium, trying not to flinch at the flashing lights pointed her direction, but she took a breath and glanced at the cards once before starting.
"Thank you for coming. I know you have a lot of questions, and I will do my best to answer some of them after my statement."
She set the cards down. "The allegations that Mr. Stark attacked the president are spurious and completely unfounded. President Luthor came to Stark Industries today attempting to obtain access to Mr. Stark's private property. As has always been our policy, the Iron Man technology will not now, or ever, be used for military purposes beyond their current applications, and Mr. Stark objected to both the request and the manner in which they were being requested.
"Mr. Stark is a patriot; he has used his intelligence and skill to serve his country his entire life, with Iron Man being only the most recent iteration of his desire to see a positive change in our world. He would never cause intentional harm to someone without just cause."
She paused for dramatic effect. It does seem strange to me though, that the helicopter that did fire on Mr. Stark was able to arrive within minutes of him. The nearest location for them to have landed is private property, and even if they had used it, it should have taken longer for them to respond to any call for help, which begs the question, why were they hovering nearby, and what were they waiting for?"
There was a soft rumble through the crowd as the implication of her words settled, and Pepper picked up the cards again, shuffling through them to give the idea a chance to germinate.
"As per Mr. Stark's instructions, I will be assuming control of Stark Industries as Acting CEO while he is indisposed." The rumble grew to a roar of conversation and shouted questions, but Pepper raised her voice over them. And you can be assured that business will continue as, if not better than, usual until Tony is back with us.
