No, you're right. A maid is a start but there needs to be just something more firm than a maid. Something unattached to the maid.
What if Gwyn was in her room but not asleep? And she witnessed something from her window that occurred around the same time as the stabbing? If she can retell that incident (something relatively harmless, like soldiers playing a game, or a soldier and a maid getting down and dirty) and then they can find those people to say, yes they were doing that, then it helps more. Granted, someone can argue someone could have TOLD Gwyn that but maybe it's a start? dklfj /ponders
