AGRAVAINE was born in New York City to two cops. His elder sister is a couple of years older than him. He was a nasty toddler, always stealing toys from other kids and being a general nuisance. Pretty much no one liked him for much of school, because he was a troublemaker. Then his little brother was born, and so he became the good son while Vaine was the bad kid who needed to be punished like all the time. He got into a lot of fights in school and was expelled a couple of times, got sent to the principal's office a lot, etc.
His sister fucked off to Louisiana, leaving him with the parental unit and golden boy brother. Daddy really wanted Vaine to be a cop like him, but this only pissed him off, so he required outlets for his anger. The family moved away to Vermont when daddy's job required it, and it was in Vermont where his life fell to shit. Grade twelve happened eventually, and on one fateful day he nearly beat a boy to death for insulting his brother. Parents saw this as a cry for something, so he was shipped off to an institution for therapy and anger management.
Life in a youth facility was boring and left no impression on Vaine, who would leave two years later only slightly improved. His parents seemed to be fine with the changes in his mood, and so they left him alone. While in the facility, his sister gave birth to a Pheme.
His first marriage came four years later to a woman he dated for a year, but after five months he discovered she was insufferable to live with. Then divorce happened. Second marriage followed two years after that, and though he assumed they were happy (as happy as Vaine's are), before the year was up she just disappeared with a man she'd been cheating on him with for months. Then divorce number two happened. She still calls on birthdays, holidays, sends him gifts. He throws them in the trash and doesn't answer calls. His former step-sister is Lilith.
After his divorce was finalized, he stayed about two years in another city in Vermont before moving back to NYC, where he is now a bouncer at a club.
ATHENA is Sophia Alifirova, born in Odesssa, Ukraine. Her immediate family was never well-off, but her aunt and uncle had some money. The quality of life was not abysmal, but there were periods where Athena would have to limit her spending because of how little her family had. Her mother passed away giving birth to her, leaving her with a father who worked too much but spent as much of his time as possible with his little girl. Athena grew up surrounded by male cousins, which certainly influenced her in more ways than she'd admit. She spoke English with them and learned it from them from time to time because they had English-speaking friends.
She was a quiet child, forceful and confident in speech. People had a tendency to feel intimidated by her, and the fact that she rarely smiled or laughed. Children shied away from her, but were intrigued by her wisdom and intelligence. Come adolescence, she was maturing into a lovely young woman, when tragedy struck and her father passed away when she was around fifteen. This left her to live with aunt and uncle and her plethora of cousins, which she did for some years, until she applied to Harvard to study law. She'd long been interested in law since figuring out herself at the age of eight.
Eventually she learned she'd been accepted. Overjoyed in her own way, she immediately flew to the United States with the money she'd saved up, and money her aunt and uncle had provided her with. School was fascinating in every aspect, and Athena would've gladly stayed even longer if she'd had the money. After seven years, she graduated and stayed within the city. A job opportunity called her to London, and she'd remain there for some years. Lady luck granted her the wish to meet her father Zeus, whom would soon become her permanent client. Serving as his attorney for some time, she stayed within London as close as possible. Then came the time for Zeus to leave, after which point some months later, Athena decided to follow.
