[closed/complete] Characters: Morpheus [morphly] & Sigyn [sigyny] Date/Time: After Ryujin's announcement. Location: Dungeons. Rating: PG Warnings: Sadness. D: Summary: Morpheus comes see Sigyn one last time.
Morpheus waited until everything was quiet before he came down to where they were holding Sigyn. It was strange to think now, how for most of his life, Sigyn was there, and then suddenly she wasn’t, and now she had returned (although maybe that wasn’t the word) but things were different now. Everything was different.
He nodded to the guards, a silent gesture that they could leave and come back when he was through. Morpheus sighed a little, feeling a little unprepared all of a sudden but he came up close enough to the cell to see Sigyn’s face. Given the current circumstance, Morpheus looked in no way happy, but he smiled sad and slow anyway.
It was pretty obvious that Sigyn had been crying, eyes blotchy and nose red. It wasn't a particularly pretty sight, but she was also resigned, this had been the outcome she'd chosen when she went with Heimdall. For that she could not be sorry or take it back. Her father's coldness and disappointment hurt more than the bruise on her cheek from being handled roughly.
Morpheus' visit was welcome, she rose to her feet and moved close to the bars, "Morph." She sounded amazed that he had come see her, Sigyn was happy but mostly surprised that he would. That anyone would.
This was Sigyn — the one Morpheus knew to be the person who knew him best, his cousin, and his sister. She meant most to him compared to most people, and though he had always refrained from speaking about it, this hurt him as well. But Morpheus knew his place and what not to risk; something that he wished Sigyn had taken into better account before she took off.
“Sigyn,” he breathed out, nodding his head a little. “I hope you’re holding up okay.” It was a little awkward, the way he said it, but what was he supposed to say in a situation like this? Morpheus shifted on his feet uncomfortably and unsure. “I don’t know what to say,” he muttered, sad that he had to admit it.
She smiled at him a little, "It's okay." Though it was hard to tell if she was reassuring him or herself, or maybe both. "It'll be okay." She reached out for him, fingers clumsy just trying to get a hold on him. Sigyn wasn't expecting anything from him, his company now was more than enough really.
"I know that I don't have the right to ask anything... but, I think you're the only one who would..." A small pause and she licked her lips, mouth dry, "Do you think.... that what I did- do you think it was wrong?"
Morpheus had initially refrained from getting too close, but when Sigyn reached out, he met her in the middle, catching her hand with his own. He gripped tight, desperate to be even just a little reassuring. Almost immediately he’s reminded of his time in Camelot, and he’s not sure what to say. Morpheus closed his eyes and shook his head.
“I think what you did what stupid, Sigyn,” Morpheus answered, subtly dodging the actual question. “It’s not something I would’ve done,” he added, his tone different as the corner of his lips quirked up, maybe even in a slightly different matter. “Do you wish you hadn’t…?” Morpheus asked, not being able to stop himself.
"No." There wasn't even a moment of hesitation in the thought of it, "I know - my dad, he used to tell me this story, about the princess who betrayed her country and ran away. I know he is disappointed, and..." a knot in her throat, "I remember what happens to the princess. The Emperor makes sure they're never able to be buried together too," Sigyn jumped from the topic a little, trying to convey everything she needed before they were interrupted.
"I knew from the beginning what was going to happen, but I... I love him, and I would rather die now, than not having been with him. It sounds a little silly, but I do- even now I know, but I don't want us not to rest together- I'm sure my father will have something like that in mind."
Her free hand reached for his one, "Please, just do one thing for me. One."
He listened closely, feeling like it was the one thing he could at least do for Sigyn. Morpheus couldn’t do anything to remedy anything at this point, knowing that they were both aware of how this eventually ends. It was terrible, but Morpheus had spent the past months accepting this, but it was still horrible. He gripped her hand a little tighter.
“Anything, Sigyn,” he answered immediately, his eyes softening with sincerity. Oddly enough he felt like a young boy that was growing up with Sigyn again, passing around secrets and doing each other favors. He wished things were simple like that again. “What is it?"
There was inexpressible gratitude in her face, and she reached and pressed something into Morpheus' hand, two wedding bands. They weren't expensive, or especially crafted. They were simple, but suiting- one slightly bigger than the other (Heimdall's) and her own, smaller. "They're going to pretend I never existed to hide the shame of what I did, but make sure these two- that they, somewhere, together." her eyes stung, "Just that, because I love my father, but I - the thought of being separated, even in death- that scares me more than dying." Sigyn admitted, "If you- these, at least- we won't be."
Her fingers gripped tightly, "Please."
Morpheus casted his eyes downward and breathed heavily. He didn’t understand why, but an anger sparked inside of him and it weighed heavily in his chest. “I understand,” he said after a moment, and this time he meant it. Morpheus understood why it must’ve been scary, why this was all so incredibly hard, though he may night have been able to express it. He accepted the two bands and looked back at Sigyn with an unreadable expression in his face.
“You have my word,” he added lightly, wishing he could let out all he was feeling instead of having to keep them inside. “I — I wish things were different. For you.” Morpheus reached through the bars and brushed his thumb lightly across her cheek to wipe away a tear.
A little nudge and she pressed her cheek against his thumb, "It's okay, really. I was very happy." She offered her cousin a watery smile, "Thank you." The relief was evident, as if this horrible weight had been lifted just by a simple promise.
Sigyn believed that as long as something of their remained together, they couldn't be completely severed from one another.
He nodded back at her, giving her a quick and small smile before pulling his hands back to keep the rings safe in his pocket. Moreover, Morpheus hated the thought that Sigyn would be so miserable in her cell despite her words. Without exactly thinking it over, Morpheus took a deep breath and said, “I was in Camelot for quite a while recently…”
Morpheus dropped his gaze to somewhere near their feet, frowning a little because he didn’t know how to tell Sigyn. “Remember when you told me about love?” he reminded both of them, narrowing his eyes.
Sigyn seemed puzzled for a moment but then nodded, "I remember." A wary smile, was he angry at her because of those words? Hopefully not, she had meant them well, and she had wished for him to be happy. "You've thought about them?" There was a little surprise at that, while she didn't think Morpheus would stop caring, she didn't think that he would give it a second thought.
Every single emotion in Morpheus’ body at that moment magnified — how scared he was for his cousin, his anger at the situation, his overall confusion, and even how much he wished Merlin was around so he didn’t feel like he had to endure this alone. When he looked up, his eyes were different and glazed over. “I can’t go into detail, I believe we don’t have much time,” he started, chuckling a little, though he wasn’t amused. “But I met that person. I’m no longer content.”
The look in his eyes caused Sigyn's grip to tighten on him, "In Camelot?" She whispered, amused despite everything, "What is it with them, right?" There was nothing she could do to make the situation better, so instead she tried some light comments. If she had time, she would've comforted him, advised him, but there wasn't that option, "I'm sorry, I never wanted you to feel discontent... it is good, when you meet that person." Sigyn seemed more wistful again, "What are they like?"
Morpheus rolled his eyes, because he expected this, but by then the smile on his face was already… stupid. “They’re all ridiculous people, I don’t know what’s so great about them,” he answered, half-honest. A sharp noise came from outside and where Morpheus had come from earlier. “I wish you could’ve met him,” he said distractedly, but he mused over the fact that it was simply just Heimdall’s brother. Back to Sigyn he told her sadly, “But I think I’m starting to over stay.”
"Thank you for coming here, for telling me-" She made a little gesture with her head, "Don't... do it how I did, but make sure they know, and maybe..." A small shrug, "Maybe one day it will be easier." A quick grip and then she was pulling her hands back, "I hope you'll be happy."
That expression on his face, Sigyn had never seen that on him before, she was both glad and sad for him.
“Hoping can only do so much,” Morpheus said drily. But at least this conversation had done much in easing his mind. He gripped Sigyn’s hand one last time before letting go and stepping back. “I’m not sure, but if I can, I will try to see you again,” he reassured, meaning it with every fiber of his body. “Be strong, Sigyn. I know you are.”
