Summary: Sibling bonding.
Theseus had been moping. Well, not noticeably moping. Not if you didn't know what you were looking for. Selene always knew. She watched a lot and she learned from watching. No one told her that it was bad to stare or that she was naughty for creeping around. Hera perhaps had some minor issue with it, but Selene just accepted the acceptance as permission.
As it was, she was tired of seeing her darling Theseus so grumpy over his wife being gone so the only logical response was to crawl into bed with him, much like she had when they were little. "Brother," she murmured, placing a quick kiss to his shoulder before curling up next to him. Her arm slipped around his waist. Perhaps it wasn't the best choice, but who would tell on her? She was just being a loving sibling. That was surely not against any laws. Yes. Clearly just a loving sibling showing her love with hugs and kisses. At least she hadn't kissed him on the lips. It was enough to keep herself to one kiss on his shoulder. For a woman with no self-restraint, she felt she was doing particularly well.
"Are you still sad?" This was followed by Selene nuzzling at his shoulder. It wasn't until that moment it occurred to her that maybe he had been sleeping. "I'm sorry if I woke you." Sort of.
Selene was special. He'd never scold her unless it was for her own good, never have her change or become someone she didn't need to be. She was fine as she was, living her life and seemed happy that way. And wasn't that what was most important?
And if anyone was going to be able to see past what he showed on the outside and even kept beneath that very handsome layer, one of his siblings would be that individual. His concern for Hera had settled in his heart which was entirely natural but not welcomed as he would have preferred his wife at home. There were moments when he believed himself to be out of sight that he let his thoughts drift into a darker, less happy place, erasing his smile and any light from his eyes.
Perhaps he should have seen Selene coming (and maybe a part of him did, explaining why he was wearing pajama bottoms). He quickly opened his eyes when he first felt the pressure on the bed and then relaxed when he saw who it was. And when he had made herself comfortable, he put an arm around her and gave her a kiss on top of her head. "I wasn't that asleep anyway," he informed her, opting to avoid the question about being sad. He didn't want to go there. Her nose was lightly tweaked then. "Couldn't get into Hermione's bed, could you?"
Theseus hadn't answered her question, but she didn't worry over it. Sometimes people kept secrets. She understood well enough. She kept secrets, too. Instead of trying to poke it out of him, she stretched out next to him and made a contented noise. Selene loved her brother and there was a part of her that probably loved more than she ought, but it never seemed like a bad thing to her. Love was a positive thing.
The nose tweak made her nose scrunch up and she laughed lightly before nuzzling against him again. "Mmm...Hermione is not my pretty brother," she replied, fingers creeping up to touch his face, feeling for stubble. Why she liked the feel of it, she never really knew. Perhaps it was just that it tickled her hands sometimes...even though sometimes it scratched them, too. "And she was sleeping already." As if that would really have stopped her. There was a pause before her eyes dropped. "And meanwhile, my darling brother was lying awake in bed."
She drew a few little patterns over his cheeks. "Plus, your bed is bigger."
He would never doubt that his sister had many secrets. He was sure he even had the sort of secrets that could crumble nations. "I believe that's because I'm bigger and I share it with Hera," he pointed out with a mild grin, watching her stretch and behave very much like a cat.
With the feel of her hands on his face, Theseus allowed it for as long as she wanted to paw at him. There were many things he was comfortable with than some other brothers might not have been. But their family was a special sort of odd and he knew there were lines that would not be crossed. "And when did I become pretty instead of handsome?"
Selene peered up at him curiously for a moment before propping herself up so her hair would fall and tickle his face. Maybe it would make him sneeze. That was always funny. His sneezing face was the most amusing. But then she hadn't seen all of his faces...as some expressions belonged to Hera alone. There was a soft laugh at his words and she shook her head slightly. "My giant brother. He is so big small beds could not contain him." Another laugh escaped at the thought of beds trying to contain people. Perhaps the sheets would come alive and wrap around people's limbs. How curious. But Theseus was speaking again.
"You are always pretty to me, brother." Her fingers traced lines over his face, almost like she was memorizing it. The expression in her eyes was thoughtful as she studied Theseus quietly. "But if you would rather I use handsome..." And she trailed off, which was more purposeful than it would have been if it had been during the day. "It is just such a strange word. Hand and some. Some hands." She laughed again. "But I suppose it does explain you."
Some did but he would have his sneezing face shortly when the predicted sneeze came, aimed off at the side. There wasn't a woman in his life that had short and manageable hair but he supposed that was alright. Theseus couldn't say that Hera's long blonde hair didn't come in...handy at times.
"I would like to think handsome does, even when you over-think the word." Reaching out, his thumb stroked over one of her cheekbones. "But among us siblings, you are the loveliest. You would have made a number of men very happy. I'm sure you still do. But I won't deny I'm glad you have made your home here with me."
He could be so selfish.
Selene giggled softly. "Sneezy." She was perhaps a little easily amused at times, but that was Selene. It was better that way. At least, she figured so. She leaned into the touch, eyes closing slowly. Yes, she liked touch. She reacted well to touch. "You are very complimentary today, brother." There was a small smile as she looked at him. "No one can be for me what my brothers are." Her fingers paused for a moment.
"And I think perhaps some men do not want me." She shrugged before laying back down next to him and nuzzling against Theseus. "And what if the one that wanted me was the kind that wished to take me far away?" She wouldn't have allowed it.
His sister reminded him of how simple and good life could be during the less appealing of times. The easy amusement, the affection, it was distracting in a good way and well appreciated. "Sometimes little sisters deserve a few compliments. Just sometimes. I'm very opposed to you getting spoiled," he teased.
If men didn't want her, more for himself and Odr. "If the one who wanted you wish to take you away, you would have to assure me it was something you want. Having you around is more than good but I have traveled plenty in my life and I wouldn't deny you your own adventures."
"All the times." She nodded to emphasize the point. She rather enjoyed compliments. She was just the tiniest bit vain and feeding her vanity never seemed like a bad thing. It was only right when she did the same for her brothers. "It isn't spoiling," she countered, lightly nosing at his chin. "It's only telling the truth. I am lovely just as my siblings are lovely...and just as Hera and Polyxena and Hermione are lovely. See? It is just truth." Mixed with vanity.
Her eyes grew wide for a moment. "But why would I wish to leave?" Instinct made her fingers curl lightly around the fabric of her brother's shirt before she reminded herself no one was making her leave. "I could not pretend to want to be anywhere but near to you, brother. And near to Odr." It could be no other way. Of course, if it had to be, she could handle it but why should it have to be?
"Some of the time," he corrected, tapping her on the top of her head as he couldn't get to her nose just then. "And it's a little spoiling. You can't be pampered with compliments that often. But I see what you did there, sweetheart." He laughed lightly. Women, in his opinion, were all so tricky. He loved them all for that.
A small hum was offered as he thought about what she said. "You might wish to go to see the world. To see new people, new places. Eat new treats and see night come in a land you know nothing about. Experience traditions of a foreign place and come back and tell us all about them. It's up to you, though. I would never force you to go or stay, Selene."
Selene blinked a few times. "But spoiling is okay." Spoiling was always okay. "But it is true, too." She smiled, stretching next to him again. "I did something?" And she was playing innocent again. It was happening quite enough recently.
She thought about it quietly for a moment. "I suppose it wouldn't be terrible. There is a lady in Niflheim I wished to speak to. She had a nice name and I was going to go and scare her out of hiccups before the cat did it." There was a shrug. "But I like nighttime. I don't know if it would be different based on location. Perhaps less cold." But that didn't really matter too much. She didn't mind the cold when she had the Czar's socks. Coincidentally she was wearing a pair of them at the moment. Her feet had gotten cold. "You would not be able to even if you would." She smiled slightly. "But I think you know that."
Devious sister (but he had no idea about her stolen socks at all). His hand went to slide through her hair, stroking her as he would a cat. "You should see this world before worse happens, Selene. And if you have someone you can visit, that's even better. You will always have a home to return to, always have your family waiting here, ready to welcome you back. That's one of the best parts of traveling, I imagine. Knowing that when you return, you'll not feel as if you're returning to less.
"And I do know. Once you have a Selene in your life, you accept her as she is and adore her more every day." A kiss on top of her head followed that. "Especially when she comes in to check on her older brother who was feeling concerned about his wife. You've my thanks for it."
