Summary: Ra comes to see how Merlin is doing.
Ra hadn't slept well. He'd been tired, but that didn't help alleviate the concern that kept him from sleeping too much. When he woke up, he dressed, deciding to worry about food later. He wasn't all that hungry anyway. He made his way to the castle, intending to check in on Merlin and see if he needed something. There was very little noise as he let himself into Merlin's room. If anyone else saw him, they might find it strange, but Ra wasn't really bothered.
The room was still mostly dark, so he opened a curtain to let the light in. If it didn't suit Merlin, he'd close it again. Still, Merlin should probably eat or be checked up on. Maybe helped into a bath if he wanted. Then again, maybe he was doing better and wouldn't need help. Ra wasn't entirely sure. He hadn't bothered the doctor.
A small smile spread across his lips - an effort to hide his concern. "You look horrible," he said, fidgeting with his sleeve for a moment. "Have you eaten anything? Bathed? How's your wrist?" He forced himself to shut up, biting down on the inside of his cheek to keep from asking more questions. "Sorry. Too many questions."
Merlin didn't notice the intrusion until the curtain was open. He did not only look horrible, he felt it. He cracked a small smile, bruises on the side of his face where he had hit rock on his way down, "Yeah? I look better than you." but he didn't even sound like his usual self, Merlin closed his eyes. "The question, Ra is whether you have." He looked like hell too, and while he'd normally dismiss Ra and send him to sleep... right now he needed the man.
"I have to do arrangements. Things need my attention." He tried sitting up and whinced, wrist, back, side, legs- everything was screaming at him to not move, he gave up easily. A low curse left his lips, "The doctor left some opium for the pain, just a small dosis."
Ra moved closer, smiling just a little more, but his eyes took in the injuries, which he could see much more clearly now. He did his best to disguise his concern, not wanting to make his boss feel like he was being babied. "I think, on this point, I can most assuredly say you are incorrect." He tried to laugh, but it didn't actually work very well, sounding hollow and forced. "I..." He wrinkled his nose slightly. "No. No, I haven't." That was enough to make him smile, gaze falling to a spot on the comforter as he idly traced a pattern on it. "But I'll worry about that later." At least he didn't smell terribly. He was just...messy.
"You have to rest, idiot." But it wasn't said with any malice behind it. "Someone else can tend to the things you need to do. You have someone you trust, I'm sure." Anyone else. His eyes shifted to the opium noted. "Do you need some now? I can get you some food, too. Something easy to eat."
Merlin flashed another weak smile and closed his eyes, "Yes, I can't disagree with rest but the country won't run itself." He mulled it over, "I need a message to my sister, and food, yes." He made another attempt at sitting up and this time managed it barely. "I can't remember, do you take opium before or after food?"
Inside his head everything was a jumble, everything hurt, there was that monster-man thing in the darkness and it made Merlin sick. The drain, the crack of his wrist and the wall against his head. No, even if Merlin healed well, it'd take him a long time before he'd be fully himself again.
"You get something to eat, we'll have lunch together here- and then a bath before my sister gets here. I don't want her to see me like this, whatever Heimdall is doing is enough stress for her."
"I'll have a message sent to her." Surely someone in the castle could make their way to her with the information. He'd stay here with Merlin and make sure he was seen to and looked after. It was his job, after all. He frowned for a moment. He wasn't overly familiar with opium, but what he knew didn't suggest that there was a specific way to do it. "I don't think it matters one way or the other." He'd ask how bad the pain was, but it was easy enough to read. He moved to help him sit up a little, propping him up on the pillows. "Do you need more pillows or is this fine?"
He gave him a quick once over again before nodding. "I'll get food, send a message and return." It wouldn't take him long, he was sure. "Is there anything you're interested in eating before I get there?" Probably something that wouldn't take too much chewing. He just didn't want to get him something he wouldn't eat.
Merlin laughed, but he choked up and began coughing; he was amused at how much Ra cared but it wasn't what would be considered a bad thing. If anything it would be the opposite. He shook his head, unable to answer, no more pillows, "Soup." he rasped out, he just wanted a cup of soup and nothing else. He wasn't particularly hungry after all. A few hard swallows and he went on, "I'll take the opium after my sister's visit, can't have her worrying for my incoherency or what not."
"Ra..." Merlin lowered his voice, ashamed almost, "Did you... did you tell Morpheus?"
When Merlin laughed, Ra couldn't help but smile. "Soup it is, then." It wasn't a difficult thing to find. He'd get a sandwich. It was simple enough. "I'm not sure your being incoherent is going to be the only thing she's worrying about." He ran his fingers through his hair quickly as he made his way to the door. Of course, Merlin's next question made him pause, turning to look at him. "I thought you might want him to know," he said quietly. Though, it hadn't been written until late when Amaterasu had fallen asleep.
Whatever they were, Ra didn't know. Not entirely. He knew that something was happening, but...well, that didn't mean he traipsed around trying to peek in on them and see what they were up to. He knew that Morpheus was married, but he wouldn't comment on that either. "I'm sorry if I overstepped my bounds and assumed too much."
"No, you didn't." Merlin answered, quiet still, contemplative as he usually was not. Like this was something soft and vulnerable, something about them, Merlin and Morpheus that was private and different.
"Thank you."
