Characters: Geb (eternalearth) and Ra (atnoontide) Date/Time: April 28th Location: Adventuring in NYC... Rating: Low Warnings: Umm...mentions of sexytimes. Probs something to mention. Summary: Ra shows Geb around
Home had been nice and he was in a good mood. Even at nineteen, he was being listened to and people did as he asked them. All his children were with him and he was happy. Set listened, Isis listened. It was perfect. Everything was perfect. He knew he should have been concerned about this, but he couldn't be. He was far too easily swayed by the joy of being respected. So, when he left the home he stayed in with his half-brother, he was in a good mood. He was going to show Sean around...even if he didn't know him that well. He knew the art museums, a few places to go for good music. He'd ask whether he preferred jazz, blues, or something more modern, but he was hoping it would be jazz. He was in a jazz mood today.
Once he arrived at the place where they'd arranged to meet, he paused, managing to stay still. He was happy and when he was happy, it almost seemed like everything was even more sunny than normal. He glanced up at the sun, smiling to himself for a moment before taking a seat at one of the outside tables. Maybe he'd get a tea for the walk. Maybe not. He wasn't entirely sure. His human body was far more prone to feeling things more strongly but today he didn't mind. They were good feelings so it was hard to be bothered. Hopefully Sean would show up soon and they'd get to go off on their adventure and he'd get to go back to his perfect home.
Sean was running a bit late, but really, considering everything that had happened, it was a miracle he had been able to leave his house. A woman had just shown up in his apartment one morning, and if that woman hadn't been very naked, and extremely sexy, he would have freaked out. What was strange is how normal it seemed. He didn't know her from a hole in the wall, and yet he did know her, it was as if he had known her all of his life. He had barely made it to work, only showing up because he refused to call out sick his first week there, but any time he was home, Sean was having sex with the naked woman who seemed glued to his bed, unable to leave it. it seemed absolutely perfect, but it occupied every second of his day, his every thought, He found himself having to set alarms for work, to remind himself when to tear himself away.
"I'm sorry I'm late, Aaron right? I have had the strangest last few days."
He glanced up, smiling as he did. "Yes. Aaron." Because telling him to call him Ra seemed very strange. In public, it was better to go by his human name as opposed to his real one. "And you must be Sean." He stood, holding out his hand for a handshake. Such strange customs, but he'd gotten a hold of them. "It has been a little strange..." He wondered if everyone was having similar issues. "Well, good strange for me. I don't know about your strange."
There was an ease in which he held himself and the way he spoke. He wondered idly who the man in front of him was since everyone seemed to have been someone else before, but he didn't say anything about it. "Are you thirsty?"
"It's definitely a good strange, but still very strange, I don't really know what to make of it to be honest," not that he really wanted to talk about it, because he didn't want this kid to think he was completely insane. He shook Aaron's hand, lingering as he did so. There was something about this kid that was familiar, again, so very familiar but he was unable to put a finger on it, it was the strangest feeling, he knew this kid from somewhere. He released Aaron's hand, trying to shake off the strange feeling, it must have been in another life, which Sean had absolutely NO problem talking about, being Buddhist. This whole connection to a god thing, that was new. "Aaron, do you believe in past lives, and yes I'm thirsty."
"I heard strange things happen a lot in regards to the community." He shrugged slightly. If this was the worst kind of weird he was going to encounter, he couldn't really say he was complaining. It could have been worse. He wondered if it would get worse. Oh, he hoped not. The only issue was that he didn't know how the other three children had gotten there.
Smiling easily, Ra nodded. "Of course I believe in past lives." He'd lived four times before, including his time as a god. He was no stranger to past lives. "And I'll get us a couple of drinks, then. Since it's always a good idea to stay hydrated. Even when exploring." He paused before saying, "Or maybe it's especially when exploring."
Sean also agreed silently to himself, if massive amounts of sex with a hot chick was the worst thing that was going to happen, he'd really be okay with that. "Good, so then you don't think that I'm completely crazy for saying that I've definitely known you before." He was told about times like this, when you met someone and just knew, but he had never experienced it. The closest he had ever come was that papyrus of Geb, and that really didn't count. "Sounds good to me!"
"No. I wouldn't say you were crazy at all." He shook his head slightly. "I have had my fair share of lives before now, but I know others have had more." Shrugging, he led him inside, glancing over his shoulder for a moment. "What would you like? Water, tea? Anything's fine." He had the money for it. He was starting to consider getting a part-time job, though. Just for spending money. It never hurt to add a little responsibility to life either.
"I'm not really sure how many past lives I've had to be honest, but I definitely believe in them, and I had this really strange experience in a museum back home, an Egyptian section, which is sort of what made me want to go to the art museums. I wish there was a way to know that stuff for certain, you know? Without a doubt, like you seem to." Sean shrugged, and followed Aaron inside, glad that this kid seemed to be nice, and didn;t think h was completely insane. "Just water's fine with me."
A small smile spread across Ra's lips as Sean talked. "Did you ever think that might be a hint?" Of course, it had been snakes that had set him off. Every time it had been snakes. No matter where he was, it was always the snakes. He felt like Indiana Jones. "I'm very fond of Egypt." He wondered if that was subtle enough. "Water it is, then." He ordered two bottles of water before paying and handing one of them over. "Why don't we head to one of the museums with Egyptian exhibits, then. Since it seems to be a theme."
"I did actually, but I had this really strange connection to some picture, a depiction of some male earth god. Maybe I was a priest of his or something, I don't know..." Of course Sean had his suspicions, but considering he wasn't confident about anything yet, and he had just met Aaron, he wouldn't voice all of his suspicions, and he hadn't caught that small smile spreading across Ra's lips as he spoke. Later Geb would be able to look back on this and laugh, but for now, Sean was clueless. "Thanks for buying. I think we're closest to the MET, and they're supposed to have a decent size exhibit."
He just nodded his head. He wouldn't push anyone toward some realization. That was up to them. "Perhaps so." He decided against mentioning the fact that he was, in fact, the sun god. "Sounds familiar. The god." But he didn't mention the name. If he was Egyptian, he would figure it out on his own. "You're welcome. I've the luck of being a perfectly spoiled child." He laughed a little at that because he was sure he didn't act like it...most of the time. "Sharing is caring or something." He shrugged before leading the way toward the museum.
Sean laughed, and really, he was glad for Aaron that he had such clearly caring parents, because even if he was an only child, he highly doubted his parents would currently be speaking to him. He had just made too many life choices that they, as conservative right wing nuts (in his opinion), just didn't agree with. Maybe in time they would talk again, but it wasn't going to happen any time soon. "Sharing IS caring, that's a fundamental rule to life." Sean laughed as they walked to the museum, following Aaron's lead, since he still didn't know his way around that well.
Once they got to the museum, Ra couldn't deny feeling a mixture of interest and uncertainty. He knew these artifacts belonged in Egypt, but it was nice to be able to look at them here. Asking for a surprise trip to Egypt might have come off as odd to his parents. Later he might take the trip himself, but for now he'd wait. He glanced over at Sean before looking back at the artifacts. "So what made you move all the way here from your home?"
"I don't really talk to my family, so I looked for jobs wherever I could. I knew what I wanted to do, applied to various centers, and spent my savings flying to all of those that offered me interviews. When I stepped foot in New York, I just knew that this was the right place." Sean looked around slowly, they were in the very entrance to the Egyptian section, no huge exhibits yet, but he paused as he looked at a large depiction of Osiris against the wall, colored in green. Again, there was that familiarity, that sense that there was something more to it all.
He didn't know what it was like to be so separated from his family. They were close by and they were supportive. He had not always had a good family in his other lives or much at all, but this time he was lucky. He smiled a little. "Well, then I'm glad you've been fortunate enough to get what you desired." His eyes caught the portrait of Osiris and he looked down. Isis and Osiris. They were here. He frowned to himself. It was Isis that was the most trouble, but there was no reason to linger on that. At his home, she did as he said and never tried to bring him harm. It wasn't real.
"Osiris. He's m-" No. He couldn't say that. "Most noted as the god of the underworld." Only that wasn't really what he wanted to say. It was obvious that he was the god of the underworld.
There was something definitely tragic about his family situation, and tragedy really did seem to follow Geb around. at least he thought so. Having to be separated from the woman you love was quite tragic. "Yes, I really am I lucky to be making a living out of something that started as a hobby really."
Sean knew that was definitely not what Aaron wanted to say at all, but really, he was too distracted to talk about it. He kept on looking at that picture, and if he could have touched it, he would have. There was something about Osiris's face that touched him, it was so sad and pathetic, and it seemed to be looking right at him. Before he knew it, tears were falling down his face.
"We are all lucky when we get to do things that we like to." Admittedly, he hadn't expected the crying. Of course, he'd been the one to run screaming from snakes when he figured things out. He didn't know if this meant that he remembered or not. "Is everything all right?" He reached out to touch his arm. Maybe he just needed someone to be there for...this. Then again, this could just be something else.
Sean quickly pushed back tears, nodding, absolutely beyond embarrassed at whatever had suddenly come over him, yet he still didn't remember. It was as if someone was slowly cleaning a foggy, dirty grimy window or mirror. Things were starting to clear up, but really, it was still difficult to see the image on the other side. He didn't know what made him look up, but for some reason he did. When he did look up, his heart skipped a beat. The ceiling was painted a dark blue with golden simple stars. A woman was painted on the ceiling, taking up a good portion of it, colored in a lighter blue and white. Suddenly, it all came rushing back to him, someone wasn't simply cleaning the window anymore, they were powerwashing it. Everything came flodding back to him, and he found himself grabbing at Ra's arm at the force of it all. After a good minute or two, still looking up at the ceiling, he whispered to the boy standing next to him. "That's...that's my wife," he whispered, not caring if the kid next to him though he was completely crazy or not. "and that's my son," he motioned to the Osiris picture.
Ra had never been there for anyone else's remembering. Yes, his arm was being grabbed, but that wasn't the part to focus on. A man was remembering himself. He glanced up at the ceiling before looking back at Osiris. "Geb." It was a simple thing to say, but he knew his name all the same. "Your children will be glad to have you." Even if he had been the one that almost prevented their existence. Isis being Isis made him wish he'd been more successful. He put his free hand lightly over Geb's and smiled at him a little. "Perhaps we should find somewhere to sit down."
Geb tore his eyes away from the ceiling above him, and looked down at the person next to him, and suddenly, the whole world was very different for him. He simply managed a nod as they found somewhere to sit, somewhere secluded and in a lesser used room in the museum. Geb let Ra lead him like someone would lead a puppy, as he sat down on a bench made out of cement.
"My children are here? Are you one of them?"
Ra sat down next to him, shaking his head. "Not quite." He looked down at his lap before glancing back up. "I'm a little older than them." He was trying to let things sink in a little bit. Lowering his voice considerably to avoid being overheard, he said, "I'm Ra." He couldn't be entirely sure how that would be received, but hopefully not poorly. Hopefully pointing out his age wouldn't happen. He was well aware that nineteen was young.
Grandfather. The temper in Geb flared, and he looked at Ra with hatred filled eyes, only not snapping because of where they were, in public, in a museum filled with silence and passing eyes, even in their remote location. Ra had convinced the god of air to separate Geb and Nut, causing Geb to cry and grieve over his loss, until the oceans of the world were created, a bit dramatic, but Geb had loved his sister wife dearly and the reality of it all was that at the very least, he had cried and cursed Ra's name for a long long time. His current age was the least of his concerns. Still...he had been rather helpful in all of this reincarnation confusion. "Thank you for the water and the assistance," he said, forcing politeness through his teeth. "I do believe I'm going to go back home, because somehow, despite all of your efforts, my wife is there waiting for me."
Ra took note of the look before inclining his head. Patience and respect were important. He would be calm again soon enough. Home sounded good, though. It was like it was calling to him, drawing him back. Weird. "Of course." He stood slowly. "If you need anything, let me know." Geb was still family after all.
"I will." Later, Geb might regret how he had reacted upon knowing who Ra was, but really, he felt that Ra deserved every bit of his hate. After all, what had they done to him? Of course, family was family after all, and he knew he wouldn't stay mad at him for long. In fact, it was already leaving him a bit. "Thank you for everything grandfather."
