The Mythologia Project Rules Post
Everything you need to know will be in this post.
Due to possible graphic content, players must be over 18 years old.
PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS
1. You will be expected to post a minimum of once a week.
2. If you are going to be on vacation or in another situation where you cannot make your posting requirement, you must announce your upcoming absence by commenting to the monthly “hiatus” post in mythologia_ops.
3. If you disappear without notice for two weeks, I will suspend your ability to post in the community until you get in touch with me. If you disappear without notice for four weeks, your character will be released. No warnings, no nagging, I’m not your mom.
4. If you start a new thread and have to wait for others to join it, the time spent waiting will not count against you as "inactivity."
HOW TO PLAY
1. All play will take place in narrative posts at mythologia. There are no IM or scheduled chat elements to this game.
2. Players are expected to set the stage for where their character is and what s/he’s doing through narrative posts. As a general rule, all characters may participate in all threads as long as it is logical for them to be there. For example, Hank might walk into a scene between Dean and Triana at the Venture Compound, but Professor Impossible would be unlikely to suddenly appear in Henchman 24’s room in the Monarch’s cocoon. Players will be allowed a limited number of invitation-only posts for special interactive purposes, but for the most part you will be expected to keep your posts open to multiple participants. If you wish to restrict participation in a particular post, please use the following header and place the rest of the post behind a cut:
3. Separate character journals are optional. It’s perfectly fine just to post under your regular user name with an appropriate icon representing your character. Or, if you enjoy creating extra journals in the guise of characters, go for it.
4. Don’t forget the fundamental rule of written rp: do not take action in the name of anyone else’s character.
Okay: “Brock grabbed Tim Tom by the collar and picked him up.”
Not Okay: “Brock grabbed Tim Tom by the collar and picked him up. Tim Tom screamed and wet himself.”
Always give the character your character does something to the ability to react on their own and you shouldn’t have any trouble.
CHARACTER RULES
1. The goal of this game is to portray the characters as truly as possible to their appearances on the show. Within our own plots there will be room for character growth and challenges, but completely crack portrayals will not be allowed. VB characters already have plenty of flaws to exploit without lumbering them with non-canon problems. Therefore, Triana isn’t an emo cutter, Doc doesn’t beat the boys with a coat hanger, and Henchman 21 isn’t an undiscovered serial killer. Which brings me to –
2. The pr0n. Portrayals of character sexuality will conform to canon. There are enough straight, gay, alternative, and asexual alignments among the characters to allow you to choose appropriately for the type of pairing action you want to write. For example, Billy is a virgin. The Alchemist is gay, The Monarch & Dr. Girlfriend experiment, Doc fancies himself a ladies' man, etc. This is not a game to explore Hank/Dean or Doc/Brock or other fanciful ‘ships. The actual content of sex scenes is not restricted as long as the spirit is true to the characters involved.
3. Characters not on the “wanted” list are slated to make guest appearances in the game and will be played by your GM, deborak.
2. By September 5, 2008, copy the application questions below and submit your answers as a comment to the character claims post. Comments will be screened and visible only to the GM. I will either approve your application or get back to you with any questions/concerns.
FOR THOSE NEW TO INSANEJOURNAL: ACCOUNTS, ICONS & CUTS
How to make a free IJ: You will need to have an account for this game, as anonymous postings are too confusing in a game with many players. I don’t care whether you create your account as some version of your real identity or your character’s identity. Your icons will identify the speaker in your post, so they are what’s most important. Set up your IJ account here: http://www.insanejournal.com/
Once you have created your account, you will need to “join” both mythologia and mythologia_ops. Visit the following links and join this community by clicking the join link on each page.
Please read each icon maker’s post and adhere to their sharing policy. In general, you should always comment to the post with the icons to say thanks, and most importantly, credit the icon maker when you upload the icon to your journal’s pic space.
How to credit icons: When you upload an icon into your user pics, type < lj user="theactualusername" > -- WITHOUT the spaces I put after the first bracket and before the second bracket and WITH the quote marks around the actual username -- in the COMMENTS section.
How to send Private Messages within Insane Journal: Make sure your account is logged in to IJ. Find the "View" option on your profile page in either the top bar or side bar menu depending upon what layout you are using. From the dropdown options under View, select "Private Messages." On the page that appears, select the "Send" option. Type the IJ username of the person you are contacting in the "To" box and enter your text in the message box provided. Hit Send.
How to read your Private Messages. Make sure your account is logged in to IJ. Follow the steps above to access the Private Messages section. Any messages for you will appear on the screen for you to click and view.
