Aglaea delighted in keeping a beautiful home for Hephaestus. Marriage had made her a domestic creature, delighting in hearth and home, but never moreso than when they came to America. Their traditional brownstone was her pride and joy, and the two of them had done a fair bit of work seeing it restored and renovated, making it a charming combination of traditional architecture and modern conveniences. It was where Aglaea spent time selling the jewellery and other fine pieces her husband made, and the ones she was increasingly making alongside him. It was more space than they needed, but Aglaea looked at the guest bedrooms and daydreamed of one becoming a nursery someday. Someday soon. She'd given Hephaestus four beautiful daughters, but how she longed to give him a son. He loved their daughters, doted on them, and delighted in fatherhood. He never seemed disappointed that there had never been a son, but Aglaea wanted to give that to him. She missed motherhood, missed the feel of a baby in her arms. Perhaps here, perhaps this time. They seemed settled for a good, long time. Maybe they'd have the chance now. She hoped, anyway.
Every evening, if she had not spent the day with him at work, Aglaea took pains to have everything perfect when he came home. Tonight was no different, though the form perfection took was slightly different. The entryway was dark, save for a candle burning in a beautiful silver holder by the blush roses that were always on the table, and a little note that simply said, in her graceful handwriting: upstairs.
Up in their bedroom and the attached luxurious bath, Aglaea was carefully combing rose oil through her long, loose gold hair. Candles were burning, softly lighting both rooms. The large, deep bath was heated and ready for Hephaestus, and so was she -- wearing nothing but her hip-length hair and a gold and pearl flower necklace that he had made for her years ago. It was a welcome home she was certain her husband would enjoy.
