i would not tap that
So a while back Invisionfree/zIFboards, a forum service I've used since 2004, announced they were partnering with something called "Tapatalk" but I didn't know anything about it & didn't care.
Until I learned that they were actually going to phase out the whole service & convert it all into Tapatalk, which, if they even said as much from the beginning [and I distinctly don't remember this at all] it wasn't made clear that this was going to be an outright replacement. I'd have had way more time to prepare if I'd known at all, and I definitely wouldn't have registered that board I used for RP a while ago... nor would I have attempted to revive any of my old zIFs but anyway
THIS IS A POST ABOUT HOW TO MAKE SOME FIXES TO A TAPATALK. It assumes you are not using a phone. Don't ask me about phones I don't have one.
Nobody on support has answered me when I ask what Tapatalk is, I still don't know
Logging in
Even logging in is hard. Especially when you wake up at 3 in the morning with an idea & want to post it on a forum notepad for safe keeping real fast only to find it was forcibly converted into a service that doesn't appear to have a personal notepad. I hope I didn't have anything important on it
I panicked when I first saw this but there's a link to click below the big blue button, don't panic like I did & just click on it, it opens a regular login menu for you to insert your old username & password.
After you log in [Tap is very slow & buggy, I salute you for getting this far] it nags you about upgrading your account. You can skip it, but if you're reading this, you probably want to use the acp.
Spoiler alert: you will need to upgrade to use the acp. Do that then verify your email. It didn't warn me that it was going to send me any emails but it stopped nagging me so I assumed I didn't need to then Tap glitched the fuck out on me a few times so just don't do it man
I mean DO do it, upgrade & check your email. This assumes you still have access to your email attached to your account -- if you don't, hit "not right now" & see if you can change your email first? I'm sorry I can't guide you through this part completely because I've already done this once & it automatically integrated my accounts together or some weird business.
What some of these buttons do, I dunno I didn't check everything
In order to change any user settings or log out click your name. The little dots icon has the links to the memberlist & stuff, too
The customise button is probably the same thing as "customise look and feel" on the next menu but I couldn't get it to do anything.
A lot of that other menu sends you to the management console from Tapatalk, & you can pick out the banner/cover image thing but you really can't customise this like a skin or something, to my knowledge. Anyway the "acp" link won't actually get you to the admin cp, it results in a 502 error every time [for me, anyway, maybe it doesn't for everyone]
In order to access the admin cp, click on "profile" under your name.
"Administer user". You may have to re-log in but it should go through & give you a shortcut to the admin cp.
It can be slow and it's not... incredibly easy compared to invisionfree but play with it to do whatever you need to do I guess, all of your data IS there, if hidden things got unhidden you can manage the forum permissions & fix them that way, but if what you're wanting is your skin/coding you're SOL my dude
I know I only really covered what was relevant to what I personally had to do, but since I intend on linking this on their support forum I'm not going to get into discussing competition or anything like that.
