Damon was so glad that this was finally happening. The tomb was going to be opened and he was going to see Katherine again. The moment he had been waiting for for one hundred and forty five years was finally here. He had missed his chance during the last comet, he was not going to miss this one. She would be free and they would leave Mystic Falls and live a long and happy life together.

He was glad that Stefan wasn't around to ruin all of this for him, though he did wonder why he left town so abruptly. It wasn't like him to do such a thing, especially with Elena around, who Damon knew Stefan had a thing for. Not that he could blame him entirely, she did look exactly like Katherine... though quite different in personality.

He stood outside the tomb, fire torches lit around them and Bonnie and her Grandmother had the grimoire and were ready to go. He was glad he had gotten them to agree willingly to doing this, so he didn't have to give them some form of incentive. He nodded his head at them to start. The started to chant and Damon looked at the door of the tomb, expectantly. It started to open and he grinned. He was so close now he could taste it.

Elena had been searching for Stefan. He'd disappeared suddenly, with no notice or text or...anything. And she'd been heartbroken. He wouldn't simply leave would he? Refusing to believe it, she'd gone everywhere she could thin to go. And that's when she noticed some lights flickering near the burned-out church. Not that she really thought Stefan would be there but....

Moving forward, Elena crept down the stairs, eyes wide. She didn't understand what this all was but... "Damon?" She questioned. "...Bonnie? Mrs. Bennett?"

	"No, Stefan isn't here so you really don't need to be involved," he said. He had a blood bag in his pocket for Katherine and Elena was not going to stop him or delay him going inside the tomb. "I'm going in, you should just leave.' (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

"Damon..." Her gaze darted to Bonnie and her grams for a moment, questioning. But their eyes were closed, both still softly chanting. And as she glanced to Damon again, she saw him disappear into the darkness.

Without thinking, she took a step forward, eyes straining to follow him, uncomprehending. What was this? Why was he so intent on getting in there? And why was she so concerned? Was it only because she wasn't sure what was going on?

Damon stepped inside the tomb before Elena could say anything else. He just needed to get to Katherine. He looked around when he was inside, trying to find her. He finished going through all of them, not finding her.

But... she had to be in there, right? He looked around again, she definitely wasn't there. He took the blood bag from his pocket and flung it against the wall, mind really.

He ran his fingers through his hair. "She's not here..... SHE'S NOT HERE!"

	At the shouting, Elena rushed into the rooms without a glance backward. "Damon?!" She questioned. But she stopped short as she saw him, eyes questioning, her heart almost breaking at the sight of him. He seemed so...distraught. "Damon...who isn't here?" (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

Damon glanced at Elena, eyes flashing red and fangs coming out, wanting her to leave him alone. "Go away, Elena," he said. She was the last person that he wanted to see right now. She was just a reminder of what he wouldn't have. Katherine wasn't in the tomb. What did this mean? Had she been out all this time? If she had, why hadn't she come to find him. He couldn't believe this.

	Her hear pounded at that, unsure of what, exactly, she was seeing. And yet... Whatever was going on, he'd been nice to her. Whatever this was it wasn't because of her, she was in the wrong place at the wrong time. And so she shook her head, stepping forward. "Talk to me," she requested, eyes earnest. 	Heart strings tugged at that. But as much as she wanted to help him, she would respect his wishes. Eventually. Nodding, Elena stepped forward, arms winding around him in a short hug. Damon followed out after her, barely noticing Bonnie or her grandmother as he left. He reached the woods and dropped to his knees, just sitting there for a moment.

One hundred and forty five years of his life wasted on saving someone who wasn't there to be saved, who had never needed saving from him, who had never tried to contact him in all this time. Had she ever loved him? His mind was spinning with all these questions.

After some time he pulled himself up from the ground and started to walk toward the boarding house, his whole world shattered. He started a fire, grabbed a bottle of whiskey and sat, just staring at the fire.
