Who: Sophia, Julianna
When: Mid morning
Where: Julianna's house
What: Help from a friend
Sophia carried the stack of books up to Juliana's carefully, knowing that, werewolf or not, she'd die a horrible death by her dear friend if she injured one of them. Sophia was just grateful for the opportunity. There wasn't exactly a roundabout way to ask for books on demons. She'd never dealt with them, but was determined to help figure out who was going around killing people.
Knocking on her door with one hand, she called through, "Juliana? It's Sophia!" She made a mental note to invite her back to her new place some time.
Julianna smiled and picked her way through the piles of books and her dog, going to the door and opening it. "Sophia! Hi!" she said happily, opening the door all the way to let her in. "Excuse the mess, research." she said. She was still in her work clothes, her hair a mess and ink all over her fingers. She had an old quill and ink set with old fashioned parchment she was transcribing with. "You want tea or something?"
"You know laptops were made for a reason right?" Sophia giggled as she walked in, adding, "That would be great, thanks. What are you researching? Anything I can help with?" She asked, "I've got those great researching skills. Kind of a must-have in my job."
Julianna laughed and headed into the kitchen, putting the kettle on. "I've been feeling something...off in town. Something not good. I hesitate to use the word 'evil' because whatever is causing the ripples wouldn't think it about itself. I'm starting with demons and working my way...well, in every which direction. Hopeless really." She shrugged and got down mugs and tea bags. "And I do have a lap top, but I find the quill and such just more fun, even if I always manage to get ink on my clothes."
"Not so hopeless," Sophia smiled a little mischievously, "You forget, I used to work for the Times here. Until I got bitten that is. Now I'm Mysteria's local reporter and undercover evil stopper," She added with a playful flourish, then more honestly, "Or trying to be. I mean, I've got this right? I may as well put it to good use. So I checked out the crime scene yesterday and the newest one too. They're by different...well I hesitate to use the word people. That's why I needed those," She pointed to the books she had borrowed. "Now, as far as scent goes? I have nothing on these new murders. Nothing. And everything has a scent, I promise," She added with a tiny shudder, "But whatever killed these things? I have no idea. I tried to find Casey at the last round and ended up talking to a guy. Gryfn something? I don't know, I had to bail after some flirting."
The little librarian blinked once...twice....three times. "M-murders? What murders? There have been MURDERS?!?!" Immediately Julianna sat, her eyes wide and shaking. While she was not naive enough to think bad things didn't happen, she had lived her life in a small town where nothing bad ever happened except for her car getting TPed on cabbage night. The thought there someone had been intentionally killed, much less several people, where she called her home, scared the bejesus out of her.
"You didn't know? I wrote up two of the stories myself," Sophia said, raising an eyebrow in surprise...then it registered that she should be more compassionate to her friend. "Sorry, I didn't know you hadn't heard. Don't worry Juliana, we'll get 'em, trust me," She added resolutely. "We do need to learn more about what we're dealing with though. By we? I mean I and you stay home and ward your house," She told her with a sweet smile, and a hint of seriousness. Okay, so more than a hint.
Julianna nodded. "Yes...I can put up wards. You can stay the night too, of course. Sleep over like stuff. I have a queen size bed so we'll both fit." The kettle whistled and she jumped, going to it quickly and preparing the tea. "I'll see if I can't find a good protection charm for you, if you insist on getting in the middle of everything. I'll call Quinton too, make sure he keeps an eye on you." Julianna considered Sophia family and to an Italian, that was the ultimate show of love for someone.
"Thanks, but you know, I just got my apartment. I'm still looking for a roommate. How's this for a personal ad," Sophia asked, holding her hands up to illustrate, "'Female seeking roommate. Must be able to keep inhuman hours and have an affinity for chains. Preachy vegans need not apply, I couldn't change if I wanted to.'" She laughed a little and then nodded at the mention of Quinton.
"Cop who sees ghosts? Yep, ran into him when I was looking at the scene. Him and another witch, Kate. They were doing the same things I was. Just more offically. And 'officially' the paper is going with a possible psycho of the human variety. So I'm not sure he'll want to keep an eye on me or have me get out of the way," She smiled. "Tell me abou- there she is!" Sophia's attention was drawn to the light colored dog curled amongst the books. "I found that dog tangled in some barbed wire. How'd she get to you?" Sophia examined the pretty dog. She was light colored when all furry too, which Sophia found slightly amusing. "Oh, full moon? Make sure she's with you so no one mistakes us. I'm really light when in form."
Julianna giggled as she poured the tea. "Found Miss Artemis here around the library. I fixed her up with a spell." Julianna brought the tea into the living room and put it on the coffee table. "I'll be at Theo's on the full moon. I'm not sure he'll be to fond of Artemis so I thought to leave her home." She sat down and sipped her tea. "And if I ask Quinton I'm sure he'll keep an eye on you. He's a very nice man....for all he and Theo don't get along." She let out a heavy sigh at that.
"Artemis huh?" Sophia grinned at the dog, "Pretty name. So- wait what?" Sophia stopped dead when Julian said she would be at Theo's during the full moon. "You- I know that Theo has control but...can't you go to Jamaica or something to be sure?" She sighed and fell beside her. "I mean...I'm scared Juliana, I am. I know Theo and them are around, but this will be the first try at controlling it, I mean really controlling it, that I've ever done. Just..be safe, okay? And I can handle him, he seemed cool enough after I told him I'd report the deaths as nothing short of human."
Julianna reaches out and takes her hand with a smile. "I trust Theo...and I'm not going to be walking in the woods on the night of the full moon. I'll be at the house and I promise to stay there all night, mom." she teased.
Sophia laughed, "I've been called a lot in my time, but that's a first," She promised, and pet Artemis. "So stay here, put some...what do you call 'em? Wards? Wards on this place, and let me know that you're safe."
Julianna smiled a little impishly. "I am a big girl, you know." Everyone seemed to try to take care of her, the little librarian witch in the supernatural world. "You, Theo, and Quinton...though Quinton is trying to protect me from Theo which is kinda counter active...Men can be so.....like men."
Sophia laughed. "Really? That's kinda sweet in a weird way. Truth? I'm not worried about your ability so much as mine. Ours. Quinton should worry. Not about Theo though, he was born this way, he has control that I can only dream of. I'm not leaving my cage, but I won't be bound. I'm attempting control. Juliana...I know what I'm capable of," Her voice was very small, "I look like this little thing you don't have to worry over either, but- the first time it happened and I came to, then I saw what I had done..." She hugged her arms at the memory. "That's why I worry about you."
Wrapped her arms around her friend, Julianna gently stroked Sophia's hair. "I know you're scared...I won't let anything bad happen. Theo will help you learn control and then you can run with him...Your life will be good and happy..."
"I hope so. Seth called again," Sophia faced Juliana and crossed her legs on the couch, "I worry about him. My brother? We're only a year apart and he's been my best friend my whole life. He's worried. And dating a total slut. Again. Trust me, I went to high school with her."
Julianna smiled. "Maybe you should invite your brother here to visit. Get him away from the girl you don't approve of and get to spend time with him."
"I've thought about it. But he'd know. I can't hide anything from Seth, he'd see me do something, and that'd be it. He would know what I am, and...." She shrugged. In honesty, Sophia couldn't stand the idea of Seth rejecting her for what she was. Anyone else, fine. Not her brother.
The librarian nodded with understanding. "Theo can teach you to blend in with the humans more, I'm sure. We're going to help you. I promise."
Sophia reached over and hugged Juliana, but was careful not to squeeze too tight. She would never say it, but she needed to hear that so much. She missed Seth and even Shane beyond belief. Her mother? Not so much, but her father was such a big part of her life. She felt like part of her was missing without them.
"So anyhow, enough with the mushy stuff," She said with a chuckle, "I'm looking for a roommate, sticking up a bunch of posters later. I've got an ad in the paper too. Unfortunately, I can't hang with another were, the whole territorial thing. And the scent of blood makes me ill two ways, you know? So vampires are out. Do you know any nice witches or tolerant humans looking?" She winked at her friend.
Julianna laughed. "I think Theo would flip if we became roommates. He's very territorial that way." She gave her a little smile. "I'll put some fliers up in the library if you like. Most of my patrons are quiet."
"Exactly. I'm a wolf too, I get it and am not about to go stomping on his property...not that that's you," She added quickly, "But- it's a wolf thing." She shrugged lamely, "But I'd appreciate it. So I have a question. How'd a nice witch like you hook up with a wolf in the first place?" I mean he's cool, but you're Mysteria born right? You didn't know?"
"Actually, I'm from Jersey. I didn't know he was a werewolf when we first met. I kinda bumped into him walking down the street cause my nose was in a book." she explained with a smile. "He's actually my uh....first boyfriend I've ever had. And the first guy I've ever kissed and...." Her cheeks grow red.
"The first guy you've ever been with?" Sophia finished for her, "It's cool. Nothing to be ashamed of. Hell I wish I'd have waited for love, you know? My first time wasn't exactly something to write home about. Prom with a guy who ended up leaving me for my best friend."
Julianna blinked. "Oh...I'm so sorry..." Julianna didn't go to her prom. Instead her and her cousins had gone into the city. "What a jerk."
Sophia laughed, "Don't be sorry for me. My brothers found him! But he was a jerk yeah. I think Seth was madder than me to be honest," She chuckled again, "He said, 'no, they want to do anything to me or Shane? Fine, but not our baby sister.' Shane is my eldest brother. He's in Arizona now with a kid, wife, the works."
"I don't have any siblings but I have like, 20 something cousins. We all grew up together." she said. "When things calm down you should invite your family!"
"I'd love to, but what do I say? 'Yeah I was in hiding because I'm a werewolf'? I mean...Juliana- I changed in Arizona. Just before I left. There was a car crash and the blood...it triggered the change and I left my car abandoned on the road. They thought I had been in the wreck until I called them. Instead I was-" She bit off the rest of the sentence. She couldn't even make herself say it.
Julianna reached out and took Sophia's hand. "We'll work everything out." she said. "Know that you always have family in me..."
"Thank you Juliana," Sophia squeezed her hand back, but not so much as to hurt her. She nodded and hoped she was right. "If that day ever does come and you get to meet Seth? I apologize in advance."
Julianna perked an eyebrow. "Is Theo going to have to eat him?" she asked.
"Nah, just shoo him off," Sophia grinned, "He's a flirt, but you're nice so he may know he's out of his game. This is why he needs my help. Running after all the wrong girls. He chases off any guy that dare get within five feet of me. Or did. Now I have no excuse."
"Just warn him Theo might eat him if he flirts with me in front of him." she said with a grin. "And think on it. In this town you can find someone to easily accept the fact you're a werewolf. If I can fall in love with Theo you can find the right man for you....or woman. I don't judge."
Sophia grinned. "Sorry, straight. But I'm not banking on it. Hey, I've been alone this long. I'll epitomize the phrase 'lone wolf.'" Except when she was with her friends.
