Confessions and family and news and sickness
Who: Morgan and Marcus
When: Morning
Where: Morgan's place, Family cabin
What: Marcus calls to catch up and announces he's coming home to look after his twin.
Marcus woke up, feeling miserable of course. Not that he'd let the others know, but it didn't change how he felt all the same. He dialed his twin's number in hopes that at least she was doing alright. When the phone finally picked up and was given to his sister, he said, "Hello Magpie," In the receiver, wishing his voice didn't sound so strained.
"Marcus?" She asked as she sat back in the leather chair placed in the reading room. She pulled up her feet and frowned, "You sound terrible. How sick are you?!" She asked. "They've been saying people who've caught this need to go to hospital. Marcus, tell me the truth. Are you sure you're being looked after well enough?"
"Missed you too Morgan," Marcus managed out with a deep chuckle, "I know I sound dreadful, but I'm...well doing as good as can be expected. I've seen the doctor, the angel one that we found so funny? She's been coming back, especially now that Savannah and Nadia are ill as well." He felt such guilt over that. He hadn't meant to get Savannah, barely older than a child, ill. And Nadia?! She was his life, his mate.
"Nevermind me, how are you doing?"
"I uh." She took a deep breath and winced, "I'm sick." She said.
Marcus stood up immediately. "I'm coming over, you're not facing this one by yourself, Big Bad Thomaston," He told her, "Let me just tell the others that I'll be there. Alright?"
Morgan rolled her eyes, "Now you listen to me Marcus Thomaston. You are too sick to be moving around and coming out here to my house!" She snapped at him. "I'm fine. Right now it's just the sniffles. Besides. I'd get someone to look after me. I don't want you stressing yourself and making yourself sicker just to go on a foolish errand to come look after me. You didn't let me look after you!" She complained. Though in truth, she did want her brother.
Marcus didn't buy it. He knew her better than that. "Then you can look after me now. I know you can't get more sick, so you'll have to watch out for me," He said, then his voice turned softer, "Please Magpie? I don't want to worry about you from a distance." She was his twin, a bond he couldn't explain to anyone, save for Morgan that is. She was the other half of him.
"I'll call Doctor Cale to have her come look at you as well. She's been here to see me and Savannah already. Drew, that's her boyfriend, hasn't shown symptoms yet, but Nadia has. I can have her look at you both at once."
Morgan raised an eyebrow. "Are you moving your bit of rough in with me?" She asked. "Are you dragging people in to my home?" She obviously was well enough to get in to a foul mood at least. "I kinda...needed to see you alone though." She explained.
"No, no," Marcus said quickly, "At least not for a bit. I need to make sure you are okay first. I'll commute, it's not that hard, not for me." He noticed the change in her tone and quirked a curious eyebrow. "What's wrong?" He wondered what could be worse than falling ill to a fatal sickness. Though he refused to tell Morgan that it was fatal. At least for the moment.
"I...commute?! You are not commuting. If you get here you're staying here! Moving around out in to the cold constantly is ridiculous!" She snapped. She rubbed at her neck. "I did a bad thing Marcus. A very, very, very bad thing. Like...the worst thing I've ever done...so it's gotta be bad." She shrugged.
"Well what do you suggest? That I bring the entire menagerie with me?" Marcus asked, sighing a little and it turning into a cough. "They're ill too, Nadia and Drew have been taking care of Savannah and I. She tried to heal me," He explained, the guilt in his voice so prominent, "Then she got as sick as I did. Morgan, she's only seventeen."
Marcus was quiet for a second and said slowly, cautiously, "Morgan? What did you do?" If it was the worst thing she's ever done...well he's seen the help cry on her account.
Morgan gritted her teeth. "For the love of...fine. They can all come. On a trail basis." She snapped. "But if I kill one of them it is entirely your fault Marcus? Can we establish that right now?" She suggested and then frowned. "I..." How could she put this? He hated Theo. Mostly because he'd been the one to break her heart not so long ago. Plus the fact he'd screwed his twin never would win Theo favours. "I was in New York, yesterday." She began. "And..." She took a deep breath. "Okay. Don't judge too harshly!" She said. "I...well....I mean it was all his fault!" Okay, it wasn't but whatever she needed to do to ease her guilt. "Theo and I...had sex." She wasn't going to go in to the details about all of it though. She didn't want to scar her brother for life.
"Yes, you can destroy them emotionally first too," Marcus said with a grin. He knew he'd won that round. Listening, and trying his best not to judge, he closed his eyes, praying she didn't go into how good it was or something equally retched. Wait though...Oh no wonder she was so torn. Her Stripes. Well, if he wasn't making his twin happy, fine, but Theo?! "Morgan, now this is me, not judging....but what are you thinking?" Theo, of all people. Maybe he wouldn't dislike him so if he hadn't hurt Morgan like he had, but they'd never know now would they? "If it was because you wanted to get away from...what's his name, Merrick, then that's fine."
Morgan rolled her eyes. Well she knew Marcus didn't like him. She just had never known by how much. Though she didn't like Nadia all too much. She was fine though. Decent enough. But Morgan didn't quite feel she was worthy of Marcus. Perhaps thats how he felt when it came to Theo? But it didn't matter much, it still bugged her. But screw him and his opinions. She frowned and clenched her jaw. "I didn't exactly plan it!" She snapped. "I just...he's just..." She took a deep breath. "Merric is so perfect. He's sweet and nice and never argues with me. Doesn't challange me! He doesn't fight and he's just happy with whatever I say or do!" She began, "But Theo..." She sighed. "He's never going to be easy...but there's so much passion there with him. I love Merric. I do. I know I do. But I don't think love is enough." She bit her lip. "Not when it comes to how I feel about Theo." She replied.
The more he listened, the more Marcus sympathized. They needed the fight to survive, it was just who Morgan, and essentially himself, were. Life easy like that? He nearly shuddered at the thought of someone pampering to his sister and that fire in her dying slowly. "Maybe it's love. Maybe it's just comfort?" He suggested, already packing. He wanted to get there as soon as possible.
"I didn't mean to come out harsh, I just worry for you. I'm your brother, I'm allowed to do that. I don't want anyone hurting you Morgan," He said seriously, fully planning on having a nice little chat with Theo on the delicacy of Morgan's heart. Whether or not she had the heart of a leopard was irrelevant. Theo had the power to shatter it, therefore Marcus had the right to make sure Theo knew he could shatter him as well. But only if it came to that. Morgan would be Morgan and make her own choices and truth was, he would support her no matter what.
"Is it love with Theo?" he asked, almost hesitantly, a little afraid of the answer.
"Yeah." She sighed, "That arrogant bastard got my heart a number of years ago. Dickhead." She pouted. It was true about the line between love and hate. Theo drove her mad! But that's what she thrived upon. That sense of danger, that power and passion drove her wild with desire. Though she wasn't explaining that particular part to him. "I just don't want it to seem like my feelings for Merric weren't true. Because they were. I just think...Theo had wounded me and Merric was there to look after me."
Marcus nodded, though she couldn't see it. "I think you're right. I also think opening up those wounds again is a bad idea, but that's just me." She would do what she pleased and he would be there to put her back together if she needed him. "Though I must admit, I can't see you being tame for anyone. Love, comfort or solace, I can't even envision it. Promise me you'll stay exactly as you are, right here, right now."
Morgan gave a weak smile, though he couldn't see it. But she would allow him to sense it through her tone, "Okay. I promise." She said. "...and I will. Because I'm not worried about being myself with Theo. He sees it all. The pretty side and the ugly side I have." She said. "I just...with him being a wolf...I don't know how that could alter things." She shrugged. "But he said he loved me...and I believe him." She answered. "Oddly enough, I can trust him too." She said. "But there is something just...gnawing at me...I know it's guilt over Merric. But...I don't know. I don't like this feeling of being unsure!" She growled.
Hearing the soft smile in her voice made Marcus smile to himself. If she could keep her identity, be it with Theo or Stripes, then Marcus really was happy for her. "You have an ugly side?" He teased, "I never would have guessed. Do you keep it hidden in those handbags you love so much that serve no purpose other than to look pretty?" He chuckled a bit, and sat down on the bed, stopped packing so he could speak to her.
"Of course you feel unsure. It's Theo Drache. How can you ever know? But the thing is, can you live with that? I'm not talking for a day or a week or as a friend. Uncertainty comes with the territory love. I'm sorry, but it's true," He said with a slight shrug. "So what does Stripes say? Have you even spoken to either of them about how you feel? Dreadful thought, I know, but it has to be done at some point. I don't think picking fights and seeing who comes out the winner will work this time."
"I've not had the chance to speak to Merric yet." She sighed. "But I spoke to Theo well, after he'd slammed me in to the wall." She smirked waiting for the ew and freak out. Hey, he deserved it for that wretching speech. "I need to see how it works out with Theo. I'd hate myself forever if I didn't try. When I think about who I can see a future with...it's Theo. Even though he drives me mad. I'd never get bored with him."
And the ew and freak out came, naturally. "God, come on Morgan! I mocked your handbags and went all touchy-feely, it doesn't render me scar worthy!" Marcus exclaimed, his face crinkled up, trying to block out the image and words. He ended up laughing though. "Just don't tell me how good it was and I won't tell you of my exploits. Deal?" Few as they were. Other than Nadia's little trip to his study, he'd been too sick to get any.
"Give yourself time to think about it," He advised carefully, "But if Theo's your choice, I get to make fun of him. Or at least kill him if he hurts you in any way shape or form."
"If he hurts me they'll be very little left of him for you to have a go with." She shrugged. "But okay. I promise. And I've already decided I will not let myself be alone with Theo until he's left Julianna and I've spoken to Merric." She replied. She really couldn't trust herself not to jump Theo's bones whenever they were alone. So this was the safest option. "And deal. I don't want to know about your screwings." She replied. "And he is. I just wish he'd realised all of this sooner instead of wrecking two innocent people because of this." She sighed.
"Few as they are. I swear, one moment I'm sure it's love, the next? I wonder how we can be in the same room together. But that's a story for another day," Marcus sighed, running his fingers through his hair. It was when she spoke next that he stopped dead.
Marcus' tone was totally flat as he said, "There's a Julianna?" He was already cheating, making his sister a mistress and feel horrible! Oh no, Marcus couldn't have that.
"Uh...yeah." Morgan replied rolling her eyes. "Look...this isn't actually HIS fault." She said. She didn't want her brother doing something stupid like hunting down Theo and passing out on his front step in the belief he could actually hurt him. "I don't want you wheezing up his garden path and collapsing in a heap of muscus alright?" She rolled her eyes. "I was close to hurting Julianna anyway. She was turning him in to some pathetic, docile puppy. He was caging up his wolf side from her. It was sickening." She replied.
"Lovely picture. I wasn't going to go hunt him down or anything," He said, echoing her thoughts, but lying about it. He was too, just as soon as he got better, because he was going to get better damn it. "She turned him into a puppy? I didn't think it was possible," He said honestly, almost laughing at the thought, but declining since Morgan was so fond of him. "Don't let her do that, otherwise he's no fun to pick on," Marcus said, a ghost of a smile on his face.
"If you two tear in to each other I swear to god, you'll both be living with one ball each from then on." She snarled and rubbed at her forehead. She wasn't fond of this headache. "When can you get here? I'll have the maid make some food." She replied.
"Five minutes, and make enough for an army. Don't worry, it's all coming out of your bill anyway." Marcus declined to even comment on the Theo situation. It was best he didn't for the sake of not being a liar. "See you soon." With that he hung up and went to tell Nadia and Savannah what was happening.
