Hermione Granger studies harder than you. ([info]her_my_nee) wrote in [info]my_rpg,

Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Hermione and Ron
When: Today, morning
Where: Ron's cubicle, the Ministry
What: Hermione comes to check in
Rating: TBD--definitely safe for work, though.

It was all the buzz at St. Mungo's. Lavender had been found yesterday. Hermione stopped by the volunteer room this morning and heard from a couple of different people. She swung by the Maternity ward where Lavender had been, but couldn't find her. Either she was sleeping, or in the restroom, or they'd let her go home. Hermione didn't want to press for information, she had a more important errand.

Hermione headed straight to the ministry, and up to Ron's floor. She was so proud of him. It seemed like the longest walk in the world to get to his cubicle, but she took long strides and made it in half the time.

"Ron?" She called out before she reached his desk. "Are you there?"

Ron wasn't there. Well, he was at work, but he had been away from his desk when Hermione arrived. He was hungry and went to get himself part of the lunch his Mum had made for him. Let the other Aurors tease him all they wanted, their food was never as good as his.

Walking back to his desk with a roll and container of soup, Ron stopped short when he spotted Hermione there. He had to hope there wasn't anything on his face or his robes and attempted to look cool and casual as he took the remaining steps to his cubical.

"Mi--Hermione. Hi. What are you doing here?"

"Hi, Ron." Hermione said, breaking into a huge grin at the sight of him. She was blushing slightly, too. Had he grown more handsome since the last time she saw him? Or had she just missed him terribly?

"Well, I thought I could come and congratulate you. I'm so glad that Lavender is safe." She took a step back so he could move into said cubicle. "And I thought I'd see how you were doing."

Ron set his food down on the desk and cleared off the extra seat, putting a stack of parchment on the floor. "It wasn't anything. I just happened to be there." Was she proud of him? That felt.. really nice. He didn't often do anything that could impress Hermione.

"I'm okay. Working, you know?"

She was incredibly proud of him. It was obvious. She gave a little smile and moved to sit opposite him in front of his desk. "Still. I'm glad it was you. Lavender trusts you. I'm so relieved that she's safe."

Hermione crossed one leg over the other and leaned forward to talk to him. "Harry has been working a lot lately. I hope that you're at least taking better care of yourself than he is." Hermione knew that Mrs. Weasley's cooking was the best in the world, though, and if Ron was still taking advantage...

Honestly, all he did was get Lavender to Mungo's and contact some people. Nothing special. Ron didn't really see any reason for Hermione to be impressed.

"Harry's fine, Hermione." Ron knew it was her natural instinct to worry about the both of them, but he had absolute faith that Harry could take care of himself. "Don't nag at him."

"I'm not nagging him." Hermione said, mock defensively. "Do you know how long he goes without eating or sleeping? I think it's only gotten worse with time." She was exaggerating, of course. But it definitely was Hermione's place to worry.

"I can see you're taking advantage of your mother's cooking." She said, nodding to the soup. How she envied that he was able to eat Mrs. Weasley's food all the time.

"Of course you're nagging. It's what you do." Ron picked up a pencil, just to have something to play with. He tapped it on his knee, drumming out a simple beat.

"It's not taking advantage," he quickly protested. Ron didn't want anyone to think he was staying at home because he was lazy or cheap. It wasn't that at all. "I buy food for the house. I don't just eat." He didn't want Hermione to think badly of him.

Hermione frowned a little. "I don't nag, Ronald." Uh oh, there it was. She only used his full name when she was starting to feel irritated. "I remind, and I worry. I don't nag."

Hermione nodded. "No, I know. I mean her cooking. Even with the exact same ingredients, I don't think anyone could make as wonderful food as your Mum." She paused. Were they bickering or misunderstanding each other?

Ron's mouth tightened into a thin line when she used his full name. He hated that and it had been awhile since he'd heard it. Which really only reminded him how much he hated it. "It's a fine line."

Bugger, this wasn't going as well as he'd like it to. No matter how much he wanted to have a perfect conversation with Hermione, it never worked out. They had a knack for annoying each other and saying the wrong thing.

"I can cook," he blurted out. "Not as good as Mum, but she taught me some."

Hermione decided to ignore the 'fine line' comment. She'd bother him about this later.

"I know you can cook." Hermione said. "I mean, I can only assume as much. Living with Molly Weasley for twenty years will do that to a person." She gave him a bit of a smile. "I'd rather like to try your cooking one of these days."

"Yeah? I guess one night I could come over and make us something? I mean, if I did it at the Burrow Mum would be hovering the entire time and we'd never get any peace." Ron liked the idea of cooking for Hermione. Maybe he could impress her or something. That'd be good.

"I'd like that a lot." Hermione said, breaking into a grin. "When? Do you want to do it a different day from when we go to the museum?" She asked, pulling herself to her feet.
