Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Kevin and Audrey
What: Kevin's in the bottle for the first time in his life
Where: Leaky Caulron
When: Sunday early evening

Kevin sat at the bar drinking from a glass of whiskey. It was his third and it still didn't taste any better, but seeing as he was twenty three and had never touched a drop of alcohol previously, he hadn't acquired the taste yet. Kevin stared down into his glass, thinking that maybe the Universe had planned this whole Lavender thing as a cruel joke. It had all happened so fast and like that, he had it all torn away from him.

He took a long sip and made a face as he swallowed. This stuff was nasty, but it made the room spin nicely.

Audrey didn't often frequent the Leaky Cauldron. She didn't drink much and she enjoyed places a bit less.. gritty. But she had received an owl from one of her patients that seemed a bit off. Audrey thought perhaps he had started drinking again and started visiting pubs in the hopes of finding him.

Not having much luck in Hogsmeade or Dublin, Audrey returned to London to look through Diagon and Knockturn. The Leaky was her last stop and she approached the bar, inquiring if anyone matching his description had been in. Once again it was hopeless and she sighed, taking a seat and rubbing her temples.

It was then she turned her head and noticed Kevin sitting there. He looked miserable, though she suspected she wouldn't look much better if Percy had been taken. "Kevin? How long have you been here?"

Kevin looked up, recognizing the hospital therapist, though he'd never actually met with her himself. He also knew she was a Weasley, as since the war the Weasleys and the Potters were like wizard royalty.

"Oh, er--" he looked at the clock and took a moment to do the simple math. "Hour and twenty minuteS?"

She frowned slightly and order a coffee for herself. Audrey always felt the need to help others and she couldn't turn her back on someone who clearly needed something.

"Mind if I join you? This isn't the sort of place where I feel comfortable sitting alone." Audrey kept her tone polite and friendly. Kevin was obviously drunk and hurting. People like this needed to be handled carefully.

He nodded, "Yeah, sure." He took a long sip from his whiskey glass, wincing involuntarily at the taste. He really didn't enjoy it at all.

"This place isn't so bad," he said. "Kind of a post-shopping stop. Not exactly the Hog's Head."

"I find it tends to attract those who may be trying to run from their troubles. Or hide in the bottom of a glass," she said with a small nod to his drink.

Audrey took the coffee with a smile and drank at it slowly. "You don't seem to have been shopping," she pointed out carefully.

"No," he admitted, "I haven't been shopping. I don't really have anything to do." Waiting was really killing him. All of this waiting made time even slower. He hoped to black out and miss a few hours that would otherwise be sleepless.

"Well," she said with a smile. "Perhaps you wouldn't mind escorting me home? It's late and I'm afraid my husband is still at work." She placed a hand on Kevin's arm and squeezed lightly. "It would mean a lot to me and you seem like you could use from fresh air."

Kevin pushed the glass, still a third full, away from himself. It taste awful anyway.

"Yeah, alright. I'll be chivalrous," he slurred.

"Lovely, thank you." That hadn't been as hard as it could have been. Audrey stood from her stool and dropped a couple sickles on the bar before turning her attention back to Kevin.

It would be important for him to leave the Leaky and his time in the bottle with his pride intact. Audrey knew that. She had seen far too many people embarrassed of how they had behaved while under the influence of alcohol and she didn't want Kevin to feel that.

The logic had been simple when he'd started drinking. He had already lost everything important to him, so he might as well make it numb. Now, further depressed by the booze, Kevin saw the many flaws in that idea.

"Do people actually like drinking?" He asked, more to himself than Audrey.

Slipping her arm through his, Audrey started leading Kevin out of the pub. "I think people enjoy the momentary escape from their troubles," she said slowly. "But drinking isn't the way to solve anything. More often than not it creates more problems for someone and allows what they were truly upset about to fester and grow down deep. I've seen in countless times, especially following the war."

"I know," he said. "I shouldn't have..." he was feeling incredibly guilty. What would Lavender say if she saw him like this? What would Gina and Hank say?

"You're under an extraordinary amount of stress. It's perfectly understandable to want to escape from it, even for a moment. Though I do hope I won't see you in a similar position anytime soon." Audrey stepped out of the pub and onto the streets of Muggle London. She did love London and couldn't imagine living anywhere else.

"If you need someone to talk to, you should know my door is always open."

"I have never had a drink in my life. I'm predisposed for addiction. If there's any chance I'm still going to be a father, I can't be acting like this." He was really kicking himself hard now.
