Miriam couldn't read in her room. The light was too dim, the sounds from the street below were too clear. Instead, she found that the constant level of pub noise made the bar below a good place to zone out, right near a lamp, and read.

She hadn't put pajamas on yet, so after giving herself a once over she headed downstairs to read.
