Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Who: Adrian & Astoria
What: August Ball! A date :0
When: Backdate to Sat evening.
Where: A muggle ballroom in London

7 pm sharp. Adrian made sure he was no earlier, no later. Having meticulously planned out the event ever since he asked her out, Adrian wanted everything to be perfect. He wanted it to be completely the opposite of what happened with Kaira in the Morgue. He tried hard to block that night out of his mind.

Adrian arrived on her door step in full tuxedo and bouquet of roses in hand. No dresses. No chocolate. He learned from his last "date" that those were bad ideas.

After some moments of hesitation, he knocked on her door. Okay, no more being the awkward Morgue guy. He was going to have fun tonight, and show Astoria a good time as well. He nervously adjusted his bow tie one last time before she answered.

Astoria was sort of new to the whole dating thing. She hadn't had a lot of time in her life--nor the inclination, really--to go out on a lot of dates. Sure, she was gorgeous, and she knew it, but there was more to dating than finding blokes to drool over her. She wanted to find someone she could talk to, have fun with, and not feel awkward around afterward.

She'd been ready for an hour or so, and was sitting on the sofa, flipping through her journal when the knock came at the door. She stood, set her journal on the table, and moved to answer the door.

A little smile crossed her features when she saw him there in his tuxedo. She wore an elegant purple gown with a simple diamond necklace on a chain. They were quite the pair.

"Good evening."

"Hi," Adrian said simply. She was gorgeous. No need for him to offer any improvements on her looks. "You look stunning," his normally expressionless face became a grin.

He took some time to ogle at her before he realized that they had somewhere to go.

"Ready?" He asked, a metal slinky in hand. It was a portkey. He saw the thing in a Muggle gift store and thought it was too amusing to pass up.

Astoria smiled smugly, enjoying his appreciation of her in her dress. She thought she looked fantastic, and it was nice to see other people agreed with her. She actually gave a little spin around, so he could get the full view.

Then she nodded and glanced at what he was holding. "What on Earth is that?" She asked, motioning toward his hand.

"It's our portkey," he jiggled the thing in his hand. "I found it in a Muggle store. It was either this, a butterfly net, or a plastic coc-" Word vomit, Adrian, word vomit! He stopped himself and grinned, offering it to Astoria.

"You want to play with it? We have minute or so before it'll activate. It amused me for hours the other day," And it still was. His focus went from Astoria to jiggling the slinky back and forth.

"What does it do?" Astoria was distracted from his word vomit by leaning in a little to look at the slinky. She gave a little gasp and grin when he started to jiggle it back and forth. "Yes, please!" She said, holding out her hand for the toy.

She stepped back into her apartment and ushered him in, closing the door behind them. Then she accepted the toy to fiddle with it. "I can see how. This is a rather amusing thing."

"Yeah. It's called a skanky," Adrian didn't realize he mixed up the name of the thing with something entirely different. "Pretty odd name."

He let himself be ushered into the flat. No sooner than that did it start to glow. He hardly had anytime to admire Astoria's place before the portkey was ready.

"I think it's ready now," he noted to her.

Astoria gave a little nod. She thought it was a rather strange name, but muggles were very strange indeed. She brought a finger around to touch it when it started to glow, then looked up at him with a nod.

"Ready." She said, softly, waiting for him to touch the portkey so they could be transported.

As soon as Adrian touched it, he felt the characteristic jerk of Portkey transportation. Moments later, they landed on the red-carpet of an empty lift. It had high ceilings, reflective obsidian walls, and gilded railings. It was clear that the lift belonged to an well-off hotel. The 'skanky' was bouncing innocuously in the corner.

Adrian smiled, pleased with himself. He leaned forward and clicked the 20th floor, which was the top. The ball would be taking place overlooking the city.

"I hope you aren't afraid of heights," he commented.

It wasn't long before the elevator doors opened, revealing an ornate scene. Tuxedos, evening gowns, and champagne flutes were all abound.

Astoria was looking around at the lift. She'd never seen one of this style before. It was elegant. Boded well for what was to come. She turned to look at Adrian and gave a shake of her head.

"Not afraid of heights, no." She responded, then stepped closer to him as the doors opened. She gave a little intake of breath, trying her best not to let her pleasant surprise and excitement show.

It was gorgeous. Astoria was giddy. She gave him a bright grin, then looped her hand through his arm so he could lead the way.

So far, so good. He gasped a little as she looped her hand around his arm. Adrian didn't even have to force her to do that. Walking forward without hesitation, he found himself at the gatekeeper sooner than he expected.

"Adrian Pucey plus one," he said. He stood around awkwardly before the gatekeeper let them in. Adrian could already feel the sweat on his palms. God, it was hot in here.

Astoria beamed. "I'm a plus one." She said once they were inside. She grinned up at him, bouncing slightly in her step as they entered the hall. All the people in the beautiful clothes, the decorations... it really was the high life--even if they were surrounded by muggles. If she squinted, it all looked the same.

"Do you want to dance?" She asked. It wasn't really proper for her to be the one asking, but she couldn't help it. She was excited.

Adrian himself was so taken by the scene as he walked in that he forgot that they were supposed to dance. It looked (and felt) just as he imagined when he used to see the signs advertising the event.

"I'd love to," he took her hand and lead her to the dance floor. Even if he were dull, Adrian could feel good knowing that she enjoyed dancing. As long as he didn't step on her feet himself.

The dnace floor was comfortably occupied. He found an empty spot close to the instruments and assumed the proper gesture, gently placing his hands on her hips. She is not a rag doll, he reminded himself.

And he began to sway to the violas and cellos. Looking down at her, he smiled. "I've been practicing since I asked you out," he admitted.

Astoria was just so happy to be out dancing, looking beautiful and surrounded by beautiful people, that he could have insulted her and stepped on her feet and it still would have been a wonderful date in her book. Probably.

She grinned, bringing her eyes up to his face as she gently took his hand and rested her free hand on his shoulder. It was so sweet of him to bring her out here.

"Have you? I heard Draco gave you a lesson." She added. "I'd like to have seen that." She was imagining the two of them dancing in the morgue.

Adrian groaned, rolling his eyes. "Yeah. Just one though. Even though he's a git most of the time, he can be a pretty good dancer. You think he taught me well?" Adrian thought he was doing well. He hadn't stomped on her feet and she hadn't told him to get off of her yet.

"I think he did a good job." Astoria replied, giving him a grin. "You're a true gentleman." She took the lead for just a moment to spin her self out, and twirl back in. It was so very much fun. She hoped she didn't offend him, though, by taking charge for a moment there.

"You're a true princess," he replied. Everything was fantastic, Astoria was enjoying herself, nothing out of the ordinary.

And then she suddenly took the lead.

This wasn't practiced. "Wh-" he began, a terribly perplexed look on his face. He felt slightly frantic as she twirled out.

"Oh, okay. I see," She liked spinning? Okay. Adrian took the lead again and spun her again.

Astoria blushed deeply at his words. She gave a soft "sorry" when he looked confused, then pulled back in.

"You can move your hand like this," she said, lifting his hand up a little. "If you want me to twirl again."

Dancing sure was a learning experience. "Oh. Like this?" Adrian lifted his hand up, a little too much. The leg movement he could understand, but he never learned to use his hands while dancing.

Tori nodded, following his lead. She spun under his arm and came back, stepping up close. "You don't need to lift it so high, though." She said. "Like this." She repeated the motion so he could learn it, then stepped to twirl once more.

He brought his hand down lower. He was enjoying all this spinning. "Got it," he smiled.

He brought his hand up again, just at the right height. But instead of letting her spin herself, Adrian added a little momentum to her movement as well, thinking it'd be fun to watch her go even faster.

Tori gave a laugh, spinning a bit faster at his encouragement. She spun back in and stepped even closer. It was closer than was respectable, but Tori didn't care. She was having such a good time dancing with him... she wanted to be close.

"Do you want to learn more moves?" She asked, giving his hand a little squeeze.

She did come close. His heartbeat quickened when he felt her hand on his chest. Her perfume was intoxicating.

"You smell good," he said to her boldly while she was close to him. Astoria was doing all sorts of physical contact on him.

"Sure. If we start singing, will everyone else sing too?" he asked innocuously. He saw it all the time in those old muggle movies.

Tori blushed a bit. She smelled good? Well, she was wearing her favorite perfume tonight. It was flattering that she could draw this kind of response from him. She liked it. It made her feel good.

"No, I don't think so." Tori said, shaking her head a bit. "I don't know if everyone would know the words."

"Hm. I guess. I was going to suggest you teach me a song to sing, but I suppose I'll have to settle on you teaching me something else then," he contemplated all the many things that she could show him. Dipping, scooping, different types of waltz...

"Do you know how to kiss well?" He said, grinning. That's how it happened in the movies, right? The dashing gentleman would say something outrageous and the damsel would be offended but ultimately do it.

"We could try a dip," Tori suggested. It was one of her favorite dance moves. She loved the way it felt to lean over backward, and have someone's strong arms there to hold her and help her back up again.

A soft, sudden laugh escaped her. She couldn't believe he actually asked her. "Well, I've never had any complaints." She responded, somewhat bashfully, somewhat egotistically, still grinning.

"I bet not," he said as an afterthought. He never had any complaints either. Mainly because he never kissed a girl, before.

"A dip? Okay. Sounds complicated. What do I do first?" Adrian replied. He was glad they were more occupied with the dancing than actually talking. About things. He wasn't good at talking about things.

"Oh, it's not that complicated." Tori tucked the notion of kissing into the back of her mind. She'd kissed plenty of boys, many of whom she didn't really like. It might be different to kiss someone she did like.

"Here." She took his hands and showed him the motions to lead her into the dip. They did it slowly so he could see how she moved.

"Oh," he took note of it. Adrian wasn't the quickest learner, but didn't like asking for her to do it again.

"Like this?" He attempted to go into the dip. As he leaned forward, he started to lose his momentum. He kept going forward. And forward. Astoria didn't even weigh that much, but eventually her gravity brought him awkwardly closer to her.

Ooh, she was close. He felt her breasts against his chest and her arm wrap against all around him.

It set off an embarrassing bodily reaction. He felt that characteristic rush of blood pooling in his pants.

"Oh, Merlin," Adrian shot back up, pulling her up with him with all his strength. Once they were adequately on their feet, his eyes immediately shot down to his trousers.

There was a little tent hitching where his zippers were. He immediately blushed red.

And then she was upright again. Astoria pulled back a bit, smiling sheepishly up at him. In her panic about falling she hadn't really noticed his reaction. But when he exclaimed and turned his attention down there, guess where she looked? She knew she was hot, but there was the proof. She went red herself and gave him a little more room--uncurling her arm from around him.

Adrian didn't know what to do. Should he keep dancing? Should he acknowledge it? Should he pretend it didn't exist?

Instead, he ended up freezing there on the spot. While everybody else was still dancing.

"Maybe we should go sit down?" He suggested finally, a bead of sweat coming down his forehead.

"All right." Astoria turned and looped her arm through his so he could lead them off the dance floor. There were some tables around. They could order food and drink. Maybe. Possibly.

Was that really? She was trying not to think about it. It was both flattering for her and embarrassing for him. Though, she was a little embarrassed, too. Apparently he was attracted to her.

Adrian was silent, his eyes averted. He was focusing all his might on getting it down. He thought about corpses. And people's insides.

He half-limped over to the table, but each step undermined his attempt to defeat it.

"I erm," he said, as they found a table, believing he owed her an explanation. "It's--You're gorgeous," He spat out finally.

The blush that had faded just a bit from Astoria's face came back in full force. She couldn't stop smiling, though it was a shy, flattered smile.

She slipped into one of the chairs around the table and folded her hands in her lap. "Thank you." She paused. "I didn't mean to... make you... uncomfortable."

"I'll have a wine, too. Whatever red you've got. No preference. Just a lot of it." The waiter nodded and left.

God, now it was the awkward part of actually talking.

Adrian looked around, his eyes shifting from Tori to the rest of the room. "So," he began, mustering enough wits to say something. "Are you having fun?"

Tori was frowning. From what she knew of Adrian (which was, granted, not very much) she couldn't imagine him raping someone.

The wine glasses came and not a minute too soon either. He took a large gulp of it before setting it down.

"Yeah. Violent beating maybe, but rape, I don't think so," Dark humor. He was starting to meander into territory that was suitable with friends. Not dates. Especially first ones.

Violent beating? ...he was joking. A dark smirk crossed Tori's features.

Later? Adrian hoped there would be a later. He perked up.

Whether it was the alcohol or what he thought was the alcohol working, Adrian started to feel a lot more light-hearted and open about this whole date thing. The whole room felt friendlier.

A violin tune caught his ear.

"Oh," he grinned. "I like this song. Would you like to go back up and dance?"
