Narrative: Birthday Surprise Characters: Kitty Pryde (OT Josh Foley) NPCs: --- Location: Josh's Dorm Room Timeline: Midday 10/1 Description: It's Josh's birthday, and Kitty made him something! Rating: PG
Kitty supposed it was a little unethical to use her powers to sneak into her boyfriend's room, but it was his birthday. She wanted to leave him a surprise. She was even working through her lunch break because waiting until after school activities were over left a lot of time for her to miss the window of opportunity to work in privacy.
She had wanted to make him something special for his birthday, but she wasn't as great with arts and crafts as she was with circuits and wires. She'd purchased a Raspberry Pi and most of the other parts were either snagged at a local RadioShack or co-opted from the robotics club lab. The plan was to make a smart digital picture frame. It would display slide shows of pictures as well as play whatever music and videos he wanted, and once she was able to hook it up to an app on Josh's phone, he'd be able to push streaming video to it as well, making it an extra monitor in the room—useful in addition to being aesthetically pleasing.
She had tested the build with her own phone, and it had worked well. She had also loaded some pictures of the two of them together from her phone onto the picture frame, and she had programmed a little slide show to play on it by default. She found a good spot where he would see it, plugging the screen into a open power socket. She booted it up, checking her phone to make sure it was working as it should. It came to life with her slide show, and she smiled, pleased at how well it had turned out. She placed her heartfelt birthday card next to it, stepping back to admire her handiwork before sneaking back out of the room.
