And now they were to the part where Anthony really did feel like he was intruding. The girls had gone silent, but more than that, Natalia was crying, and he didn't know what to do. Should he try to comfort her, or would that screw things up for Jean? And what could he do to comfort Natalia anyway? Putting an arm around her seemed wrong. But then, Natalia crying at all seemed wrong; she just wasn't a very emotional person.
If it were him crying, he'd want privacy, which is what finally made him decide to go. Jean told him not to go far, but it should be pretty quick to get to a soda machine and back, and he already had some Tylenol in the first aid kit in his backpack. He'd run the errand for Jean, then come straight back.
Anthony had taken a few steps, then turned back. Reaching into his coat pocket, he pulled out one of his handkerchiefs, his initials embroidered in the corner. He gently pressed it into Natalia's hand, then left.
