Outside the door came a slow, almost slithery-sounding scrap against the floor. Still bleary-eyed with sleep but keyed up on adrenaline Artie didn't even know he had, the mute boy stepped into the room with his bag at his feet.
He waved to Jimmy but then turned his attention to Logan. Artie scrutinized him for a second, then put the side of his head against the man's rib cage. He'd made it. Jimmy wouldn't disappear without him. After staying like that for a few seconds, he bobbed his head in the opposite direction and started collecting things Jimmy might need. A flash light, a deck of cards, a wobbly-looking...thing that was probably important. The more he gathered, the wider-awake he became. It reminded him of he and his dad going on vacation, leaving at three in the morning only to find that after dragging Artie out of bed, he was awake until after breakfast, full of excitement.
He made a quick sign then tried to put it into a pictogram. The closest ASL for it was 'danger', but that didn't really set the mood he wanted. A drawing of a young boy in dark blue shorts, a lighter blue shirt and a white had with ears at the top formed. It was adventure time!
