School was out for the summer and although Jimmy hadn't started yet, he could feel the excitement of the students at Xavier's, the relief of it being over and for finals to be finished. Some of them, sure, were unhappy by their scores or they would not be moving on to the next grade for one reason or another, but overall, everyone liked summertime, right? And what better way to celebrate the start of summer than to kick it off with a night spent outside surrounded by friends and having a good time?
Even though the guest list had grown exponentially since his original five people or so, Jimmy didn't want to leave anyone out who would want to come, so he turned no one away who showed an interest. Then it grew and grew. More and more students kept coming to him saying their friends and their friends of friends were coming, and Jimmy started to get a little overwhelmed, wondering if he'd even be able to pull it off. Out of the blue came the solution to his problems in the form of Anthony Stark who recruited a band of people to handle the food prep and just like that, it was doable again.
Jimmy, with the help of Moira and Charles, had ensured they would be prepared for anything, no matter the weather. There were tents and sleeping bags for students to use, blankets and flash lights and rain ponchos and bug spray and anything else a camping trip might require was made available. Jimmy had never done camping before, so he relied on Moira's advice on what to do, and even questioned Logan on a few things. Jimmy and Billy had scouted out a big enough area that was flat enough and interesting enough (with even a small cave Scott had pointed out on his patrol the other day) for a group as big as the one coming to the grounds at Xavier's. The students would need to pick their own camping site and set up their own tent if they planned to use one, but Xavier's property was large and they would be secluded away from the protesters at the gates and from prying eyes of neighbors and the Xavier Institute itself, across the lake.
Staff members were in attendance per Xavier's request, due to the nature of the event and the sheer number of students who would be arriving and gathering. But Jimmy had done his best to try and ask adults who seemed fun and non-threatening to come, including Maddy and Ororo. Which meant shenanigans that went against school rules would be prohibited unless students got creative with their 'goings on'.
At the end of the night, Jimmy knew that if he stayed and actually slept overnight with the rest of his peers, that his mutant abilities would engage and he would nullify the whole camp. So instead, he'd made plans with Moira to hike back to the school and sleep in his own bed so that no one would be disturbed by the loss of their powers, mutants and otherwise. He was sad he wouldn't get to fully participate with all his new friends, but their safety and comfort was higher on his list than sleeping under the stars.
