Veronica Ryan pulled her tough little Kia Optima into the visitor's parking lot. She blew air up at her dark brown bangs, which had fallen out of place, relieved she found the place. A little over three hours had passed, and her legs were sore from the very long drive. As she parked the car and looked at the old buildings with vines climbing up the face, she smiled. Something about this place might actually be good for a getaway.
She opened the door, and pulled the keys out of the ignition to stop the beeping, stepping out and stretching. She was wearing jeans and a sweater, already regretting the colder weather and wishing she was back in the Southwest, where you didn't have to contend with the biting cold and inevitable snowfall. She observed the large property. The trees were past their color here, and looked dead and empty. She kicked open her trunk and pulled out two suitcases, setting them up on their wheeled carriers. As she did, she turned to see two students walking down the path from the main road.
One was blue, and had a---tail and yellow eyes. The blond girl talking to him seemed to be wearing armor on her left arm. Veronica's eyes widened, and she stared at them. "I chose the wrong year to quit sm-" she muttered, cut off as first the boy vanished in a puff of blue smoke, then the girl fell into a hole of light in the ground.
The news hadn't lied. Well, holy shit.
Gathering her things, Veronica hit the automatic lock on her car - not that it mattered with people who could disappear into thin air - and made her way to the building that was supposed to house the staff. Where Walter would be waiting for her!
Only a few minutes later, she was standing in front of his door. Pulling a piece of paper out of her purse, Veronica reviewed the instructions and number. This was it. Walt's apartment! She knocked, and after waiting a few seconds, tested the door. Which was unlocked. She supposed out here there wasn't much point in locking doors, and let herself in.
Lugging her suitcases in behind her with deft skill, she parked them in front of the movie shelf. When did Walt have time to get all of this stuff? Shrugging off her sweater, she tossed it to the couch, adjusting her tank top and looking around the place. "Walter! Walter? Guess who!"
