If it was how people learned, then perhaps Shatterstar had been learning wrong the entire time he had been at Xavier’s. He was quiet for awhile, processing it, wondering if what she said was accurate -- but, then, there wasn’t any reason to doubt Alison and her words. She had taught him a lot so far and he knew it would only continue.
So, after unknowingly resting his cheek against the top of her head, he said, “If they had killed you, I would have killed all of them. But you are still alive and still here and you are recovering, out of the way of any further encounters with them. However, if they come here, I will not let them harm you again. You are safe, Alison, and when you are better--”
-- This went against his promise to Rictor, he knew, but he spoke the words anyway. He would find a way to make it work and to make it right. “--we will see if your father is safe, as well.” He knew it was another concern of hers-- friends and family and her own well-being, they all seemed to be normal concerns for those around him. Slowly, he was learning about them all, and slowly he was beginning to understand it.
