She settled up against him. Just feeling him breath behind her was enough to put her immensely at ease. Once or twice her eyes fluttered but then she jogged herself back awake—she had to stay up. Just in case. In case they came for her...in case they took him away from her. When she closed her eyes she saw her boss and the way they beat him down and the way she was ten seconds away from having that happened to her if her knees hadn't buckled and she forced herself to crawl into that cabinet.
At first Alison wasn't going to 'Star up on his offer to listen, only lay there in silence like she had been the last few days, trying to quell her emotions. But the longer that they lay there not speaking the more it drove Alison to finally say something.
"I keep going through the what ifs in my head..." Her voice light to start, thin. But then it bubbled and thickened with emotions as she got the words out. Alison trembled. "They were right there...they could have found me... They could have..."
