Miguel hated that Greer had to stay Downtown while he was free to come and go Uptown. Really, he felt bad that Greer was stuck in 2099, period. She had come from a completely different era, and no one had any clue whether or not she would be able to return. If not for the generosity of the adoring Thorites, she would be homeless. And thanks to the misadventure with the Hobgoblin of 2211 that had stranded Greer in this era, she was now a fugitive from the law whose feline face was everywhere.
Miguel had been working to change that. It had taken him and Kasey Nash's contacts a few weeks, but they'd finally been able to procure an image inducer. Sure, they were commonplace in this era, but this one was special and difficult to come by. And thanks to a few near-misses with the Public Eye flyboys and a fight with the Freakers gang, Miguel -- as Spider-Man -- had almost lost the device.
Arriving at the apartment building in Throwbacks' territory which was Greer's temporary home, Spider-Man slipped past any residents on his way. The fewer people spotted him, the lass chance he'd have of word getting around that Spider-Man was here.
Crawling on the side of the building, he tapped the window with his figner talon, then slipped inside quickly when Greer opened the window. Once he was safely inside, he removed his mask and greeted Greer with a kiss on the cheek. He then presented her with the earring-shaped device, smiling at her flood of questions. He got the distinct impression that image indicers were either rare or non-existent in her era.
"No one will see the tail as long as you keep it close to your body," he explained. "Wrapping it around your leg would probably work. Otherwise, the tail will clip through the hologram. The effect lasts as long as you have the inducer turned on, to a maximum of six hours before charging. Most inducers these days last anywhere from eight to a full twenty-four hours, but this particular inducer also contains a cloaking device, which uses up more juice. The Public Eye's scanning tech can see through conventional image inducers, but not the black-market ones like this. If it runs out of juice or gets damaged, you won't be cloaked."
He stepped closer to her and stroked her furry cheek. "I will say, though, that it'll be a shame to hide what you really look like."
