Kat was both grateful and frustrated by the appearance of Guido. It was the distraction she had been craving, but also the one she knew she was using for a crutch. Though it would have been easy to become part of the group and engage in the conversation, she made a quick escape inside the mansion.
The halls held a lot of old memories for her. She loved the old building, even missed it every once in a while. She had grown here, found a family, and while most of them had separated to travel down their own paths, there were bonds that could not be broken. She had kissed her first boy here, her first girl, she had even fallen in love. With a sigh, Kitty dropped back against a wall in the hallway and stared up at the ceiling. This trip down memory lane was not what she needed right now.
She heard footsteps and her head turned quick to spot Jubilee. Her stomach twisted and she felt her face grow flush. "Managed to escape, I see." It was far from the most clever line she had ever delivered, but her voice was level and she managed to actually smile.
