Gaia & Lila
Summary! Gaia and Lila make ammends :>
GAIA: It had been a long time, since Gaia had spoken to Lila. The horror of what Lila had hurt Gaia, broken her heart and turned her entire world on its head. Rather melodramatic, perhaps, but for someone who had such simplified views of what was Wrong and Right, dealing with Lila's lies had been very, very difficult.
It had been a long time, though, and Gaia was missing her best friend. No one was as patient with her as Lila, people spoke to her as though she were a simpleton, or as though she was supposed to understand quirks and phrases and words immediately and then confused her when they tried to explain what they meant. Lila had always been very clear, with regards to what she meant with Gaia, clear and kind but with a small amount of firmness. Who knew that was what Gaia needed?
This was why Gaia was now at Lila's door, staring at the white wood paneling for a moment or two, before carefully pressing her ear against the door and doing a brief telepathic sweep of the room's interior. She didn't want to interrupt Lila if she had company or was busy doing other things. Finally satisfied with what she found inside, Gaia stepped back a little and knocked very quietly on the door.
LILA: Lila wasn't doing anything particular; she was working on some music and checking her email. It was rare that she could be found sleeping here, preferring the cramped bed in Forge's workshop and his company in the evenings. But when he was concentrated on working, she might as well be up here, working on her own ventures.
When the knock came to her door, she glanced at it and removed the pencil from between her teeth. She was working on some lyrics while stuff was rendering. Nothing very thought-provoking or stuff from which she couldn't be interrupted. "Yeah? It's open," she called. She figured it wasn't Forge by the way of the knock, but maybe another resident who had questions about aliens.
GAIA: Gaia's heart tightened at the sound of Lila's voice coming from within, and she bit her lip, staring dumbly down at the doorhandle for a moment before carefully turning the knob and timidly peeking inside. Lila's room was how she remembered it, almost exactly, which sent a pang of sadness wash across Gaia momentarily. Obviously Lila's life would continue without the inclusion of Gaia. Somehow over the last month or so, Gaia had begun to distort her memories of Lila and her surroundings, that somehow inside this bedroom would be proof of Lila's treachery. That there were chains and weapons and top secret documents hidden under the bed, other little kidnapped aliens locked in the closet.
Gaia was beginning to realise how stupid that notion had been.
"Lila?" She said in a tiny voice, fingers gripping the door tightly, "Can I please come inside? If you are not too busy?" She kept her eyes on her feet, her cheeks a delightful shade of pink.
LILA: Lila immediately looked up from whatever she was doing when she heard Gaia's small voice. She didn't know what feeling washed over her -- surprise best described it, maybe some concern that Gaia would be coming around now. She still retained her instincts with Gaia, wanting to somehow keep her from harm but generally not interfere with her living her life.
"Yeah, of course, Gaia," Lila pushed to stand from her chair. "Is something the matter?" Even though they hadn't spoken in months aside from passing comments here or there on the network, Lila figured the pink-haired girl would come around when she was ready to talk. But Gaia's behavior made her think that something else was the matter, not realizing that it could be related to Gaia working up the nerve to come here. Their fall-out was big but Lila could very well overlook it if something was wrong.
GAIA: "No. Nothing is the matter." Gaia shuffled her feet, like a little guilty schoolgirl. Now that she was here, she wasn't exactly sure what she wanted to say - Lila's surprise crashed down upon her like a giant wave, and Gaia swallowed hard, trying to keep her empathy at bay, and focus on her own emotions. She fiddled with the bottom of her shirt, and took a few more steps inside, carefully closing Lila's door behind her.
"I just..." She bit her lip, and continued to pull at her clothes for a moment, before raising her eyes to Lila's, two big watery tears welling in the corners, "I miss you." She finally admitted, her voice trembling, "And I want to be friends again." Even if you were a traitor to the Citadel of the Universal Amalgamator. Gaia wasn't too sure what hurt more, that she wanted someone with such a title back into her life, or that she had called Lila those horrible things in the first place.
LILA: Lila was prepared to give her all the space she needed (well, while both of them were still a part of the hotel) and every idea she had about making it up to her fell short so she never followed through. Lila knew it was going to take time if Gaia was going to come around and that Gaia had to come to terms with what Lila did, if she could. When Gaia admitted why she was there, with that sorrowful expression, how could Lila's heart not break?
When nothing was the matter, Lila felt the urge to vomit apologies, wanting to take advantage of the fact that Gaia was here so that she could explain herself. She had been put in the position where she had to kidnap Gaia or otherwise get rid of her. And in doing so, she put the Universal Amalgamator at risk. There was no way around it. She wanted Gaia to see that things weren't so black and white, that Lila liked to hover in the gray area. But that wouldn't do Gaia any good since she'd be doing mostly to absolve herself from the guilt that she felt over the situation.
She moved around her table. She crossed the space between her table and the girl without hesitation. "Come 'ere," she said quietly before putting her arms around Gaia.
GAIA: Gaia fell into Lila, throwing her tiny arms around her waist and burying her face into Lila's shoulder, this old familiar contact with her friend pulling down the floodgates and suddenly Gaia was sobbing uncontrollably, her little body trembling and her fingers gripping the back of Lila's shirt.
"I said--I said some horrible things about you," Her voice was muffled against Lila's collar, "and I thought some horrible things about you too and I don't want to think that way anymore. It makes my stomach sick and my chest hurt when I have th-th-these thoughts and I just want to be friends again and p-p-pretend it never even happened." And then she was weeping once more.
LILA: Lila held onto Gaia not-too-tightly, pressing her cheek against Gaia's head. She was at a loss for words, anything that came to mind could just mess things up. Gaia's own words twisted her insides and brought back to the surface all that guilt and anguish she had felt when they returned to Earth. There was not only guilt but relief that Gaia had come around, emotions pouring off Lila right now that spoke louder than anything she could ever say. She swallowed as tears welled in her own eyes. She didn't think she could speak without her voice giving her away. So she just touched Gaia's hair as she let the girl hold on tight. "Shhhhh, it's okay. It'll be okay."
GAIA: Gaia swallowed and nodded against Lila's shirt, sniffling a little as her grip tightened around Lila's waist. For now she was just happy to stay here like this, waiting until her tears subsided so that things would fall nicely once more into a comfortable sense of normality. Gaia had missed her best friend, and was glad to have her back.
