WARREN: Forcing himself to put aside thoughts of his relationship (or not) with Tessa, Warren had thrown himself into the business of finding himself somewhere permanent to live. He'd finally found the perfect place, but before he finalized the negotiations, he wanted certain people to have a look at it and give him their thoughts. Which is why he'd given Jean and Scott this address, and asked them to meet him here. Nestled in an area full of shiny Californian mansions was this half-built house, and Warren had pulled into the driveway to await his friends. Nothing said 'grown up' like buying your own house, and Warren was particularly excited by the fact that he could finish it to his own specifications. He wasn't going to be able to cheat it like he had the hotel, but he'd already talked a little to Forge about the possibilities for upgrades. He was also already in love with the entertainment deck at the front - not only did he have somewhere to land easily after flying around, but it was a fantastic place to hold parties with a fabulous view of Santa Monica. It was perfect!
SCOTT: Despite everything else going on around him and with him, Scott had of course come when Warren invited he and Jean to see the house. Things might have been awkward with Jean and distant with Warren, but they were still Scott's oldest and closest friends. Despite what was happening at any given time, he would always be there if one of them needed him for something. Which was not something that he would ever be able to bring himself to verbalize, but he knew they understood it anyway. Naturally, though, Scott was far less interested in things like the party deck, and more concerned with the security aspects of it. He didn't like the idea of Warren living in a house without the myriad of staff that were at the hotel he'd been living at, or without the security team that was at Paradise. It wasn't as though anyone was really gunning for Warren now, but still. It was a nagging worry in Scott's mind, and likely always would be. Were it a normal point in time, he'd have gotten there on his motorcycle, but that clearly was no longer an option. Scott hadn't touched it since Logan had trashed it, and didn't seem likely too anytime in the near future. He'd gotten a car from someone though, as he drove up in something generally unremarkable, parking and getting out, eyes taking in the place from behind his lenses, before scanning for where Warren was, as he walked up to the house.
JEAN: Jean had an expert poker face, able to mask her initial reactions from random thoughts that made it past her shield and had grown used to the more shocking stuff. However this afternoon was going to be especially challenging because as good as her poker face was with strangers, that really only extended to the use of her telepathy. She wore her heart on her sleeve with her closer friends, especially when her feelings were hurt. She was not happy about what had transpired between her and Scott and she wasn't about to pretend it was. Still, she'd show up at the address he gave her and hope that Warren's attitude was infectious. That, and she already determined on the cab ride from campus that she wouldn't say a word to Scott. Perhaps that was passive aggressive, but whatever. It would fit nicely next to her bad feelings over Logan. She showed up at the property a little after the boys, watching the adjacent mansions fly by as the driver pulled to a stop and Jean handed him his fare. She stepped out from the back seat and quietly closed the door behind her. She approached the house, her eyes flitting from Scott's back to find Warren.
WARREN: Warren was excited enough for all three of them, really. His grin on his face got bigger as his friends arrived, and he was all but bouncing on his heels as he waited for them both to join him at the top of the driveway. "Okay, so, I know it needs a lot of work to get it finished, but that's okay, I'm getting a pretty good bargain on it because of that. And it means I can talk to Forge about getting it mutant-proofed a bit and putting in a decent security system and kickass entertainment system and everything, without having to put holes in the walls. The construction company who started the work on the place are still available, so that's not going to be too hard to work out." Warren didn't even bother to say hi, he just launched straight into talking about the place, he was that excited about it. He hadn't even noticed the tension between Jean and Scott, he was too excited. "Come on guys, I'll show you around. It's three floors, got five bedrooms and five bathrooms, double garage, and the entertainment area is seriously to die for..." Warren flashed them a large grin, and then turned and headed to the front door, pulling the keys out of his pocket as he did.
SCOTT: Oh, hey Jean. Scott was apparently dealing with the strangeness the way he dealt with all emotional things that he couldn't handle (it was a long list). He ignored it. He glanced over to her when she showed, but then his eyes went to Warren as he made his way over to their winged friend. Although a smile didn't crack through on his face, he couldn't help but smile mentally at the fact that Warren would think to include a 'kickass entertainment system' on the same level as the security measures. Then again, that was one of those things that made Warren, well...Warren. He followed Warren to the door, eyes taking in the dimensions of the house from behind his glasses. "It's got good visibility to the road." Sorry, the entertainment area was not on Scott's mind at all. But really, saying that Warren had picked a place where it would be easy to see who was coming up was some pretty decent praise, from Scott.
JEAN: Jean left Scott to worry about the practical. She would willingly indulge Warren in his excitement, and not let Scott dampen the mood because he's concerned about security and other serious things. This was supposed to be fun -- serious can be sorted out later. She followed after the boys, her hand still on her bag strap. "What are you going to do with all that extra space? Because I don't think you need more than one, maybe two bathrooms." She was distracted by looking at the facade of the house. "Though, if you plan on doing lots of entertaining, extra bathrooms would be --" She stopped herself before she said anything else that could be taken as Jean being a buzz kill. "How are you going to be able to get any work done with all the parties you can host here?" Let them talk about the house and the partying, okay?
WARREN: Warren just laughed, shaking his head. "I don't know, I'll find some roommates or something." Originally he'd been intending on moving in with Tessa, but that wasn't really on the cards right now. Maybe one day... "And I can turn one of the bedrooms into an office. I've been working out of Inferno's office, it can't be that hard to work out of one here." Stop being such a buzzkill, Jean! He led them up to the front door, giving them both a Look. "It's going to need a lot of work, so no comments about the lack of proper walls. ... and be careful where you step. The current owner couldn't afford to finish the building, it's why he's selling."
SCOTT: Of course Warren didn't need all of that extra space, but Scott wasn't surprised in the slightest that he was getting it. And where with others he might have rolled his eyes (secretly! thanks glasses) at the extravagance, with Warren...he didn't really mind. It was just part of who he was. Scott wasn't going to get on him about that in any more seriousness than Warren would get on Scott about how he never smiled. You had to accept the annoying quirks along with the good ones when it came to friends. Which Scott never ceased to be vaguely surprised and a bit amazed by, when he thought about it -- he had real friends. Well, albeit ones he'd been distancing from strongly recently. "Are you designing it, or did you hire someone?" He was going to be a little worried if it was the former, sorry Warren.
JEAN: Yeah, Scott really knew how to treat his friends. Jean just kinda watched how he interacted with Warren, glad she was able to keep her mouth from hanging open and pointing out what had transpired between them the other night. It would be entirely different if he was acting the same he had that night but if he had, he probably wouldn't have been here. She wasn't quite sure what was going on with Scott, but his normal behavior made Jean more suspicious about what was going on with him. Her eyes moved from Scott to Warren, as if she too were interested in his answer to Scott's question -- when really she just wanted some confirmation that Warren found anything weird about Scott's recent behavior.
WARREN: Part of Warren's charm was his complete lack of observation - was there something weird about Scott's behaviour? He hadn't noticed. As far as he noticed, Scott was always withdrawn and quiet. And if he was around less than usual, well then, Warren didn't mind. Maybe he was finally getting a life. He laughed at Scott's question, shaking his head. "Nah nah, I've already hired a designer to take care of it. Like I have time to worry about all that shit." As long as it fit his requirements (tasteful, secure and the perfect party house), Warren didn't give that much of a shit what the place looked like. "Come upstairs, I'll show you the deck..." Warren all but bounced ahead, so excited to show his friends his new house he didn't notice the tension between them. How could something possibly be wrong when he had a new house to show off?
