log: jean grey & charles xavier.
summary. Professor Xavier stumbles across Jean on campus and interrupts her from making her list. They play a little catch up and he invites her to lunch.
xavier. Charles Xavier didn't make it a habit to eavesdrop in the minds of the students at UCLA. Apart from it being very bad manners, he generally just didn't want to know. Jean was one of the few exceptions - her mind was better guarded than most, though not when she was sitting daydreaming about her perfect man. He nudged her mind a little, bringing up the memory of the dream kiss she'd shared with Scott. She'd certainly enjoyed that, hadn't she?
After a couple of moments, his feet took him past Jean, a smile on his face for the beautiful redhead. "Good afternoon, Jean."
jean. Stumbling upon the thought -- she couldn't comfortably call it a memory since it was a dream rather than an action that took place -- could be explained rationally. She was thinking about romantic things and that fairy tale kiss was the pinnacle of romantic kisses that Jean had had. However, she pushed it from her mind because she and Scott were still not on the friendliest of terms -- a separate issue to sort out which she probably let go on to long. He hadn't been himself for awhile and she found herself hoping it was just the holiday blues. Now it was almost February and she wasn't sure what to do.
The sound of his footsteps and his voice broke Jean's concentration. She was taken aback at seeing Professor Xavier appear... particularly when she was thinking about romance and ideal partners and the like. She tucked some hair behind her ear and pretended she wasn't blushing. She had something of a little crush (besides academic admiration) on the man and the timing was just... well, her mind had to switch gears before she could talk to him without the heat rising her cheeks.
"Hi, Professor. How's your semester going so far?" She realized the notebook on her knee was still open and she fumbled to shut. She wanted to to avoid any embarrassing accidental glimpses of what she had written regarding her ideal.
xavier. Xavier did his best to ignore the blush - he'd long known about Jean's admiration, and if she hadn't been a student... no, he wouldn't go there. He continued to smile, letting her close her notebook without sneaking a peek.
"Not quite the same without you in my class," he said with a slightly teasing note. "But there is a promising student or two. How is Medicine treating you so far?"
jean. It's best not to encourage the girl. She can't quite figure out if he was somehow flirting with her or not or if that was her wishful thinking. Either way, she composed herself and offered a friendly shrug. "I'm really enjoying it so far," she said. "It's a good fit." Rather than boasting about her grades (perfect, by the way) or the ease with which the coursework came, she felt not only confident in her ability but mentally stimulated. However, as much as it felt right that she was on track to become a doctor, she couldn't keep from thinking how that would fit if she were to try and commit to Logan. They didn't talk about school all that much; it was an unspoken rule not to seriously talk about that stuff, whether it was the awkwardness or the hot-for-teacher jokes. Hmmm. Would that be something to add under cons?
xavier. But what if he wanted to encourage her? Er. That was not really conducive to anything, was it? He nodded a little at the comment, still smiling. "I thought you would. It is a good fit, though I must admit a little bias in saying I think you'd also be well suited to psychology." Jean was one of those people who would, perhaps, be good at anything she turned her hand to, particularly in the field of academia. "Your professors are working you appropriately brutally then I take it? I remember during my graduate days being worked to the bone. I hope things haven't changed too much."
jean. She laughed politely, the most natural way for her to laugh unless she's giggling over some inside joke with Rogue. "So you want me to have no social life?" She sits up straighter, relaxing as they maneuvered their way through small talk. "I manage to keep my grades high and have a life outside of school. Maybe I am just a better student than you were?" Jean didn't need to be worked to the bone to prove she was a good student. Maybe her peers were having difficulty with the course load, but she wasn't.
xavier. "I have no doubt that you are a better student than I ever was," he said with a laugh, a twinkle in his eyes. Xavier had been the best student in his year, but he'd also distracted himself with a lot of other things during his studies. Jean did have her distractions, it was true, but she was far more disciplined than he had been at her age. "And I think maintaining a social life is very important, don't you worry. In fact, if you are not too busy, I would love it if you were able to join me for lunch. I was on the way to get myself something to eat, and food is always better shared."
jean. She couldn't help but smile, somewhat relieved to have something other than sort out her feelings. She did have some time before her lab and she was just occupying herself since she wasn't going back to the hotel between sections. There was a slight hesitation before she nodded and began to gather her things. In her hesitation, there was residual awkwardness since he was her professor at one time, for one class. But she wasn't his student any longer and she was in medical school. Clearly, she could have lunch with an old professor -- nevermind her schoolgirl crush. "Sure, I'd love to."
