Johnny felt pretty good. It was the middle of the day, the sun was out for a change and he felt more like himself. He just looked like hell. His lip was swollen and split, he had a very impressive shiner, and scratch marks down one side of his face. But he felt alright, he just knew going to work looking like this was not the inconspicuous double life he was hoping to lead.
He found himself grateful that the Bat had showed up to help him, he was less concerned about his face and more concerned about the guy the Bat helped him restrain. He had mostly gotten over the wounded pride, because for him it was less to do with pride and more to do with doing the right thing. The Bat understood that as well, and he appreciated it.
Max had sent up some spicy soup, and he was just finishing it up when he heard the knock on his door. He hoped to God it wasn't her. He looked through the peep hole, saw it was Mason and sighed. He wasn't going to ignore his best friend, but he also wasn't prepared to answer questions about his appearance. Then again...He was a skilled liar. As much as he hated that, he figured he could put it to good use.
He opened the door with a grin on his face, his hand came around to scratch the back of his neck as he tried to look guilty, but amused. "I am so completely busted," he said chuckling as he stepped aside to let Mason in. "Come in, and if you tell anyone I got my ass kicked friendship over."
