Calling Jennifer Warda had been a spur-of-the-moment decision, but it wasn't one that Liz could bring herself to regret. It was a rare occasion that she stayed away from the club. Phantasia was her baby, and tended to monopolize her life in the same way a child might have. It was an easy habit to get into – sleeping during the day and letting her job dominate her nights. But Jen had offered her a distraction... and Liz had found the offer absolutely irresistible.
So for the evening, her business manager was looking after the club. Everything was well in hand, and there would be plenty of time the next day to un-take all the liberties that he'd taken in her absence. If anything big happened, she was sure she'd get a call... if not from him, then from Cherrie or 'Mike' or Roger. Someone would let her know. That, however, seemed an unlikely possibility. She found it much more plausible that she would enjoy a quiet, interesting evening with the enigmatic Detective Warda.
To that end, Liz had spent her early evening making the preparations. She'd chilled a couple bottles of fine, suitable wine, set on a steady playlist of moody jazz, and immersed herself in the kitchen. Cooking for someone else was a rare thing for her; she didn't often find herself tempted. But she was in the mood for her own kind of food, and looking forward to the Detective's company.
