The fact that he had looked everywhere but at her was bothersome, and the corners of her lips turned down a little. And then he began to lecture, sounding like her parents, and she sighed. She didn't like being told she had a lot to learn, and she didn't like him treating her like she was a little girl, and the accusation of letting people take advantage of her hit too close to home.
"I'm not a virgin," she told him; a lie, but a forceful, believable one. "I been with plenty of men, and no one's going to take advantage of me." The bravado lasted only a moment, and then she was feeling guilty for having raised her voice and gotten angry, and she was biting her lip with uncertainty. "Don't you like how I look?"
