Luke felt slightly guilty when he saw Sam's expression change, but at least she dropped the subject. He turned his attention to Bonnie, regarding her with a slight tilt of his head. She was smart, and honest with her words in a way most people weren't. Heroes didn't do what they did for fame or attention - not the real ones, at least. They did what needed to be done for the good of the people, to promote justice and try to make the world a better place, even if they faced scorn and even hatred from the people they fought to protect. That was what he wanted, not adoration or even appreciation (it would be nice, but not necessary).
"Some people might never end up believing." Luke glanced towards Sam, grinning when she held up her sign. "But we can still try," he agreed. "For every person who doesn't believe, there's someone else who does. Like us."
