Who: Bonnie and Jane
What: Randomness in Seattle
Where: Bookstore for starters
When: This week
Warnings: None
The bookstore was big and crowded, one of those franchises that managed to be quiet despite all the people inside talking and having coffee. Bonnie had walked there from Hamartia, and to say she looked out of place would be an understatement. Her bright red hair was messy-loose and the dress she wore was a chaste white that was more appropriate to a Victorian girl than to a woman about to turn 20 in the modern world.
She'd been in Seattle precisely three days, and this was her first outing in the strange city. The store, however, was bright, and she liked the feeling of the closed-in shelves and their pages of safety. She was standing in front of perfectly ordered books on photography, and she pulled one off the shelf, a gallery book on abandoned places, and leafed through the pages.
She had a camera, one she'd brought from home, an old, oblong thing, but she didn't know how to develop pictures. As she stood there, turning the pages, she watched the people who wandered too close, ever watchful and wary. Finally, she curled up in a plush chair, her back safely to a corner, and she bit her lip as she looked at the pictures of abandoned homes and buildings, all dark grays and shadows of memories.
