And suddenly her anger was reignited. "What other options? You had parents, and families, how could I ask you to give that up?! Just leave it behind for me?!" All she'd ever wanted was a family, more than anything else in the world, so how could she possibly ask anyone else to give up their's? "You want to know what happened Leo? Matt got shot trying to save me! And then he died! It wasn't fast, and it wasn't peaceful, he bleed to death in my arms!" she couldn't see anymore through her tears, and she couldn't seem to care that she was yelling. She still remembered the way it felt to be covered in his blood, still woke up some nights feeling it on her hands. "I left because I wanted you to be safe! I left because you and Kate were the only people in my life that actually bloody mattered, and I couldn't put you at risk anymore!" She'd been putting them at risk every single day just by being close to them. She knew they would have left if she asked, she knew that they would have done anything to protect her, and that was the problem. Protecting her was what had gotten Matt killed.
"He found me Leo." she said, voice desolate, as she began to lose steam. "He found me and he kidnapped an innocent woman, to make me come to him. What do you think he would have done if he'd had access to the people I love?" She thanked God that Daryl had survived, that she hadn't had more blood on her hands, but imagining Leo or Kate in her place seemed to make it all a thousand times worse.
