Who: Cora, and Theo
What: Meeting up to go out, worrying over cuts and bruises
Where: Bathos, Theo's apartment
When: Thursday night

Cora had tried to get ready quickly but it seemed like she always second guessed whatever she was wearing anytime she was going to see Theo. She smiled slightly, as she smoothed out the causal grey dress she'd finally settled on wearing over a pair leggings. She didn't think she'd ever worried this much about what to wear when meeting a friend as she did with Theo. The walk to Theo's apartment was as fast as usual, and she once again appreciated how close he lived. It felt like she hadn't seen him in ages, and she was excited to spend more time with him now that her classes were finished for the semester. Even if that meant bothering him while he was work she thought with a grin as she knocked on the door.

Brushing back the curls of his hair, they flopped in various directions as if laughing at his attempts. Finally he flung the comb aside and slid into a nice blue button down over his black t-shirt and jeans. With finals finally over, he had taken the Spring semester off as a Teacher's Assistant for his own studies into Creations and with ample work at the club so his friends wouldn't hound on him for never going out. The one person he was still willing to drop his work for was Cora though. Her laugh could brighten his day and her mind worked in wondrous ways. And those eyes, he thought to himself. The thought was broken by the knock on his door.

Forgetting he still had no shoes or socks on he opened the door and smiled. His split lip was still sore after a week so his smile was rather lopsided. There were yellowing bruises apparent on his cheeks encircling deep cuts and a slash just over his eyebrow. All other injuries and bruising were hidden by his shirt. "Kia ora, Cora."

The grin Cora had been wearing quickly dropped once she actually saw Theo. "Oh God what happened to you Theo?!" she exclaimed, concern and worry thick in her voice, as she reached out her hand to almost touch one of the bruises on his cheek. She didn't want to hurt him though and so she simply let her hand hover over the wound with he barest hint of a touch. They cuts and bruises were obviously a few days old at least, and it made Cora feel just a bit sick to think of what he must have looked like right after whatever it was had happened.

Instinctively, Theo grabbed Cora's wrist to stop her hand from touching the bruise. His smile lessened as he let out a soft laugh. "I'm fine, It's fine. There was just an accident with a mugger, but I survived." He didn't want her worrying over the injuries, so he pulled his button down together to hide the rest of the bruises.

He was about to step out, but realized his feet were bare. "Oh.. shite. I need shoes I suppose. Come in." He turned away from the door and quickened his pace to the other side of the living room.

His reassurances did little to placate Cora, and if anything only made her more worried. "A mugger?" she asked in shock, her accent thickening as it always did when she was distressed. "Theo why didn't you call me, or or something?! I could have healed you as soon as it had happened!" And she wasn't even going to let herself go down the train of thought about what if the mugger had, had a gun, and what if he'd been shot and died and she never would have seen him again because she would have been so wrapped up in her stupid finals. And no, no she wasn't going to be thinking like that. Not now.

Sighing she ran her hand through her hair. "And sit down so I can fix you up right this instant."

At the mention of her healing him, he turned sharply. His brows furrowed. "No, Cora. You are not going to heal me. Even if I was dying on the street, I wouldn't wish you to take the pain inside you." He sighed, shaking his head. He didn't mean to kill any happy mood that had been there, but this was serious. He knew how her ability felt- knew the extent it took- and even though he was healing well and the injuries weren't life or death, he wouldn't allow her any pain on his behalf.

Grabbing the arm of a chair, he gently bent sideways to put his shoes on- not really caring to bother with socks. "You didn't need to be worrying over me when you needed to finish your studies. The mugger was taken care of. All I had to do was sing him a lullaby and he stopped hitting me. It wasn't like I had any money on my person for him to take." He knew it all sounded like excuses- and lame ones- but his mind after the incident hadn't gone to her healing him, it had gone to 'I need to call into work and sleep this off' and hoping he didn't have a concussion.

She sighed at Theo's response. This was exactly why she kept her weakness a secret, she wanted to be able to help her friends. "Theo . . .It's really never as bad as it was the first time. That poor dog was so close to death . . ." Moving closer to Theo she almost reached out but she knew he'd think she was trying to heal him and no matter how much she wanted to help she wouldn't force her power on him. Instead she hugged her own arms, she wished he'd called her or told her or something even if he wouldn't let her heal him she still could have done something. He was more important than finishing her stupid sculpture in time, and her professor would have understood. Maybe. Okay probably not but she still wished she had known, the though that he'd been suffering all by himself and she didn't know. She hated it. "I'm glad you're alright at least."

His expression softened and he smiled at her. "Yes, I really am. Some of us are born to be beaten up. It's the curse of the academic. And trust me he had the loss in the end. I can take a hit like no other, but rarely can a mugger like that stop one of my illusions. I just had to get- you know- air flowing into my lungs." He attempted another chuckle.

After he got his shoes on finally, he stepped closer to Cora. The self-hug was for his benefit, he knew, and she had been right to not try to touch him with that idea hanging over head. Theo wouldn't have let her hug him just then. His blue eyes searched hers for a moment, he trusted her, but also knew she wouldn't stop trying to help. Running his hand down her arm, her skin was soft and warm. "I trust that you won't go against my wishes to heal at a natural pace?" He smirked, and then pulled her into a hug to show that trust.

"Come on, we have a birthday to celebrate."

While his attempt at humor was accepted for just that Cora couldn't say she found his comment at all comforting. Really, how was the knowledge that he felt it his lot to get beat up suppose to be comforting? She would just have to do her best to be around and patch him up in a manner that involved a lot more band aids and much less glowing.

"If that's really what you want, then fine." she told him with a slight huff. Returning the hug, she was glad at least that he trusted her to respect his wishes. Cora might not have liked it but she could almost understand where he was coming from, even if she didn't have to like it. Deciding not to let this ruin the night Cora smiled and replied. "I believe we do sir."

Theo lead Cora downstairs and around the back of the apartment building. In an open garage sat a motorcycle. The red-orange accents gleamed in the setting sun. He hadn't taken it out since he arrived in Humanity as Settle was far colder, rainy and snowy to even bother using it, but tonight was as good as any. The motorcycle was another reason to keep her close though, an excuse to have her gentle arms around him. He handed her a helmet and then climbed onto the bike.

"It's faster than walking." He said before putting his own helmet on.

Cora took the helmet with a grin. She'd never ridden on a motorcycle before but she'd always wanted a try. That it was an excellent excuse to hold tight to Theo was just a very nice bonus. Slipping behind him once her own helmet was on she wrapped her arms around his waist. "No need to take it slow on my account." she assured him, a grin in her voice though it couldn't be seen beneath the helmet. Oh this was going to be fun.

Smiling under his helmet, he pulled her arms tighter around him. "Well then hold on tight." Standing slightly to start the motor, the bike roared to life. The small building shook slightly with the vibrations before he sped out of it and out into the streets. As with any city, the streets were always filled before dark but Theo easily maneuvered around and through and a few times over anything in their way. He enjoyed every moment of how close she was to him. Perhaps it was a longer way there than he usually took, but as the wind pressed hard against them Theo could feel her body snug against his back.

He sped around the city and through back streets until the sun was down. Pulling up to the back of the club, he parked the motorcycle close to the backdoor in view of the newly input security cameras. Sitting on the bike a moment longer with her arms around him, Theo pulled off his helmet and smiled.

"So should I get a bumper sticker that says 'if you like my driving please call'?"

"I'm not sure anyone would have time to get the number even if you did!" she laughed as she pulled off the helmet. Her face was lightly flushed both from the exhilaration of the drive and from how close she'd been pressed against Theo (and if she held on a little tighter than was strictly necessary? Well that was neither here nor there.) Cora ran her fingers through her hair a bit, shaking it out and trying to fight off the inevitable helmet hair that she was sure had already set in. She half succeeded in that her hair was no longer helmet but her hair now looked somewhat wild from the trip. She tried to smooth it out once more before giving up, and hoping it at least looked like the kind of messy people tried for with their hair nowadays.

Once she was off she ran a finger along the side of the motorbike, smiling in half glee, half awe. "We have got to do that again sometime." She liked going fast, weaving in between the cars and alleys. She thought that must be what flying was like. And it of course had nothing to do with getting to press herself up against Theo. Nope not one thing.

Theo laughed. Getting off the bike, he stood up and adjusted Cora's hair to behind her ear. "Now that it's warmer I'll take it out more and if you need a lift, I can't very well say no to a girl in need." He smirked.

"Come on. Have you ever been inside?" Theo took her helmet in hand with his own and then gentle grabbed her hand to lead the way. The bouncer guarding the backdoor was a tall, burly man with all his hair on his chin instead of his head. Theo waved at him as they entered before turning down a back hall and up a set of red carpeted stairs.

Everything had been made for stealthy exits by celebrities should they need them, though Theo was sure that the owner probably made the passageways less known so that they would choose to take the front door. He was all about popularity amongst everyone, if not a bit obsessed with Creations. Though Theo kept where he was from to himself, and most didn't even remember the incident that brought about him finding out he had abilities.

When they got to the second room on the VIP floor, he stopped and let her in. It had a large one way mirror looking out onto the dance floor below. "So what do you think?" He asked as he set the helmets down.

Coraline shook her head when Theo asked if she'd been inside before. She wasn't exactly the clubbing type, and most of her friends weren't either. It was also distinctly less fun when there wasn't any drinking involved.

Giving a low whistle as she looked out through the one way glass Cora would be lying if she said she wasn't impressed. It was a little strange to think that no one on the dance floor could see them when she could see them so clearly, and for a second she wondered what kind of things might have gone on in this room but quickly pushed the thought away. The only hint of where her mind had gone was a light flush creeping up her neck. "Its amazing." she said with a smile. Moving over to where Theo was standing she gave him a quick hug. "Thank you for doing this."

She smiled up at Theo as she pulled away. He really was a great friend, and she was glad they'd met again in Humanity. He was quickly becoming one of her most important people.

"You're welcome." He wanted to keep her in the hug, but didn't stop her from letting go. Maybe he needed a drink to relax first, so he wouldn't have to think about the fact that they were celebrating alone and she still just thought of him as a good friend. He turned to a computer screen built into the wall that had pictures of different drinks, drink specials and shots of girls and guys dancing. "So what's your drink of choice? Or should I surprise you?"

Putting his finger to the screen, it brought up a menu for ordering drinks privately to be brought to the suite. One thing could be said about the place, it knew how to play to the customers. The program was much like what he used behind the bar. Type in what they order, it brings up the list of other drinks ordered and usually it had the total on the bottom. Though it seemed that part was hidden in this version of the program.

"Hmmmm" she hummed in thought as she sat down. Leaning back on her hands she grinned, looking up at him through her lashes. "Well you are are the professional here, surprise me." So maybe she was trying to flirt a little, she could admit that to herself. She really like Theo, and she wanted him to think of her as more than the little girl he'd known way back when. She figured the fact that they were going out to drink at a club was a pretty good sign at least, but that didn't mean she could sit back and do nothing. Even if he didn't think of her as a child it didn't necessarily follow that he thought of her as a woman.

Theo smiled as he looked back at her. Her look making his heart skip a beat as he swallowed quickly and pressed a few buttons. There would be a lot of alcohol delivered soon; only half by accident. "Ok, it's a surprise to both of us I guess." He laughed.

"So, how have your final projects been? I hope the drama of the news mobs didn't get anything broken."

The first batch of drinks were brought up surprisingly quick. A young brunette with her eyebrow pierced knocked softly before opening the door and placed the drinks on the same table in front of where they sat. "Thank Angie." The waitress looked from Cora to Theo and smirked. "Is this-" She started, but Theo quickly got to his feet and lead her out. "Thank you, Angie. I'm sure you have more people to help." The woman laughed as she looked back at Cora and winked before leaving.

"Em... Yeah. Sorry. That was one of my co-workers. You were saying?" He picked up one of the array of shots on the tray and took it in one gulp.

Haha was that a reaction she had spied? She certainly hoped so because she had been second guessing her outfit choice. She wondered if she really should have gone with something so casual when they were going out alone like this. It wasn't like she was trying to seduce him or anything (just the idea had her fighting down a blush) she just wanted to look nice.

"Not too bad, most of my final projects I keep at the studio anyway." Something she was now very glad for. Those mobs had been crazy. It was worse than the morning rush at work, and caffeine depraved business men were actually pretty terrifying in the morning.

When the waitress came in with their drinks Cora was a tad bit confused by her behavior. She wasn't surprised that Theo knew her of course, he worked here after all, but her reaction to them. . . Cora raised a brow when the woman wink at her, and the other quickly followed when she saw how quickly Theo downed his drink. She knew it was probably only wishful thinking on her part but maybe. . . well maybe her feelings weren't as unrequited as she thought. Of course it could also be that Theo's coworkers had active imaginations and they were making assumptions over the fact that Theo was alone in a private booth with a woman. . . . She preferred the first conclusion.

Looking over the drinks they'd been brought Coraline decided a little test couldn't hurt, and she had the perfect idea as she looked at the drinks they'd been brought. Grabbing her drink of choice Cora plucked the cherry that was floating in it out by the stem. Glancing subtly at Theo to make sure he was looking, she tried to act as casual as possible. "Oh I was just saying that my projects were too big, to bring home so I didn't have to worry about the crowds." She had been slowly lifting the cherry in her hand to her mouth as she spoke and once she finished sucked on the cherry just a bit, rolling the stem between her fingers, before finally pulling the cherry from its stem with her teeth. "These are really good." she commented with a hum.

She really hoped she was doing this right, she'd seen it on TV.

The warmth of whatever it was that he just drank rushed swiftly through his system. Theo reminded himself that he hadn't eaten much that day. Watching Cora, his eyes dropping down to the cherry as she talked. He bit his lip- a blush spreading across his cheeks- and grabbed another drink. "Yes.. they are.. um." His mind had blanked a moment. It didn't matter if she was doing it right or not, she got the subliminal point across.

Sitting down next to Cora, he raised his glass to her. "To finished projects and birthdays, may both go the way you want them to." He clinked his glass against hers and took a slower drink. The new drink was spiced rum and coke, heavy on the rum, with it's own cherry. Smirking, he grabbed the stem and held it out for her. "Would you like mine?"

Cora had to stop herself from grinning at Theo's reaction, it was exactly what she'd been hoping for. Thank you television. "To birthdays." she echoed before downing her own shot. Ah, it really had been awhile since she'd had a chance to get smashed, she thought as she felt the alcohol's burn. Though she didn't want to get too drunk tonight. She might want to flirt with Theo tonight but she didn't want get drunk and start throwing herself at him. She'd never be able to look him in the eye again.

"Please." Instead of taking the cherry with her fingers though she simply leaned forward to grab the fruit with her teeth. There was something about the atmosphere that was making her feel bold.

The blush deepened on his cheeks as her lips grazed his fingertips. He had been holding the cherry close to the fruit expecting her to grab the stem from the top. Theo wasn't use to her being so forward. In the bar he usually got hit on and any good bartender would flirt back for the tips, but he kept his distance usually. He was good at mixing drinks and tried to make use of that over flirting - which he felt he was bad at anyhow.

"Um..." He took a swig of his drink. They called it liquid courage didn't they? "So... did you get everything you want for your birthday?" Looking down at his glass, he couldn't keep eye contact with her and control his need to kiss her.

Cora felt her boldness begin to leave her when Theo wouldn't look her in the eye. Had she gone too far? She wasn't usually so bold in her flirting, but she'd been so pleased at the thought that he might actually think of her as a woman instead of a child . . . The cherry didn't taste quite as good this time.

She ran her hand through her hair, a nervous habit she'd never been able to break before answering. "Well I didn't really ask for much." she said lightly, trying to bring the conversation's casual air back. She didn't want Theo to feel uncomfortable around her, or worse yet think less of her for how she'd been acting. Oh god what if he thought she was some kind of flirt who went around doing things like this all the time? "I had the people I cared about close by, that's plenty." Since she'd left Musings Cora had found she'd done less and less to celebrate her birthday each year it came around, but it didn't bother her.

His eyes flicked to her hand as she moved it through her hair and noticed the backpedaling in her body language. Theo didn't know what he had done wrong. Another drink from his glass, a forced a smile. Ok, the alcohol was starting to calm his nerves and swoosh in his mind. "Oh, well that's not good enough." He laughed.

Standing up he pressed a button on the side table. A bass beat started to thump through the speakers in the room. He held out his hand for her to dance with him. Once she took his hand he pulled her very close and rested his hand on her hip. He may not have had much experience in dancing to this kind of music but he had seen enough drunken kids doing it.

Coraline was surprised as she felt Theo pull her almost flush against him to dance, but she couldn't say she found it unpleasant. Perhaps she thought, as she tried to lose her self to the beat of the musics, she hadn't messed up quite as much as she'd thought. As she moved to the beat though, she was painfully aware of how close she was to Theo, every move seeming to be bring her closer to him. The hand on her hip felt as if it was burning through her dress, burning up her entire body. She wondered distantly if perhaps they should have order some food to go with the alcohol, but she'd only had two shots so far and she didn't think she was quite that much of a lightweight. Without thinking she laid a hand on his chest as they danced.

The bass pulsed commanding his heart beat to follow pace. Music had always had a large effect on both his mental and physical states. A fast beat techno song with the bass cranked up all the way sent adrenaline pumping through his system. And the warmth of her body on his accelerated that feeling. He usually only let himself get lost in music while in the safety of his own flat. Who knew if what happened in his mind would end up being projected some way. He didn't want to find out.

But he allowed himself a moment of getting lost, his hand started to move over the gentle curves of her body. His eyes focused on her face, committing her beauty to his mind. If only he was as talented an artist, he knew who his muse would be. Of course, he could always write a song for her, about her, not just one for the Narnia land of hers.

Cora shivered as she felt Theo's hand move across her body, and almost in reflex looked up at him. Catching his eye she found she could look away as she kept dancing, fingers moving in indistinguishable patterns against his chest. She couldn't tell if it was the thump of the bass or her own heartbeat that seemed to pound in her ears, though for a moment she thought it might be both.

The air felt different around them now, charged with something both wouldn't say though it couldn't be held at bay forever. Like a coming storm, sooner of later the tension would have to break, and let it all come rushing out. The only question was when the storm would break.

Unconsciously he licked at the wound on his lip. His heart pounding in his ears. Even if they had been surrounded by people, he wouldn't have noticed. Moving one of his hands over hers on his chest, he let his fingers trail on the back of her hand on wrist. His other hand moved up her back keeping her flush against him as the moved in sync.

The music seemed to fade as Theo's eyes fixated on her lips and he leaned ever closer. All he heard was their heartbeats.

Coraline was in something of a haze; the combination of the music, and the intoxicating rush of being so close to the person you had feelings for was leaving her thought process cloudy at best. So when she realized that Theo was leaning in, could feel his breath on her lips she reacted on instinct. Her eyelids fluttered closed, and while she couldn't tell you whether she leaned in or not, she was fairly sure she had. The hand not tracing patterns on Theo's chest found its was to rest on the back on Theo's neck, her thumb moving in an unconscious circular motion.
