The laughter worried Wren for just a second, and then she chalked it up to emotion, and she hugged her knees and smiled a little. When the tears came, she pressed her cheek to her knees and just let Hayley cry. She looked over the clothing the other girl wore, and she tried to decide if it was thick enough for a hug; she'd already figured it was more than Hayley's hands that were dangerous, because she wouldn't have said no one had touched her if it was just the hands.
She didn't start laughing herself until the girl slid onto the floor, and she crawled to the edge and looked over it. The laughter that bubbled up inside her was a helpless thing, something that came just from watching the other girl laugh, but it was wonderful in some strange way. It was like letting absolutely everything go, and she just peeked over the edge of the mattress until she'd laughed herself to tears. "I- Oh my God- I never thought laughing could feel so good," she admitted. "I haven't laughed in- I don't know, years maybe," she admitted, sounding thankful, even as she crossed her hands under her chin on the mattress. "But, yes. I really think," she said. "We can hope at least. That doesn't hurt at all." She knew hope.
