Willow looked around her apartment one last time before she locked it up and went downstairs to wait for the car that Orin Monarch had sent for her. It wasn’t a thorough look, just a once-over to make sure she had everything she needed. She didn’t, after all, plan on leaving this place forever. She was only going to live with Arr- Orin until this whole thing with Mockingbird was over and he didn’t need to keep an eye on her anymore. Besides, she didn’t want Finn feeling like she’d abandoned him, should he return while she was gone. His room and most of the things he owned still waited for him, exactly the way he’d left them, lying around the apartment. She only packed most of her clothes and necessities, everything she planned on bringing with her fit into a backpack and a good-sized duffel bag. She left her bows and her costume in the closet in her bedroom. She would stop by her apartment to change, when she went out for patrol. There was no use in leaving those things around Orin’s place, where his girlfriend could potentially find them. That would only raise unnecessary complications for both of them, and she already felt like a bother. As they pulled up to the Aubade, she could already tell that this place was a whole other level from the Bathos. And as she entered the lobby, she could tell that it was really really nice. Nicer even, than the apartment she had grown up in, back across the portal. She hadn’t lived in a place anywhere this nice since she was twelve, but it was all coming back to her when she had to check in with the doorman. He recognized her name right away and helped her with her bags. She, of course, smiled and thanked him appropriately as he brought her to Orin’s apartment and let her in. The apartment was one very large open space with a wall of windows facing the water. Willow started to explore a little as the doorman left her to get settled, but she felt awkward poking around. The feeling was only embellished when she discovered that there were no rooms. The big empty space was the entire space, very modern, very beautiful and very appropriate for someone who lived alone, but Willow liked doors. If she hadn’t been glad about leaving her costume and equipment at her Bathos apartment, she was definitely glad about it now. Without doors, there was nowhere to hide. It wasn’t that she did a lot of hiding beyond the whole mask thing, but she liked having the option to, if she suddenly decided that she wanted to be the type of person to keep big secrets. She was still young enough to change her principals about those kinds of things, right? Well, she supposed that she could always hide in Bathos, if she ever felt the need. Her little self-tour of the lower level came full circle, and she picked one of the white couches (the one that wasn’t in front of the tv) to make a bed out of and placed her bag down beside it. There was no time like the present to try and get comfortable, right? Sitting down carefully on the couch, she pulled a textbook from her backpack and opened it up to this week’s assigned reading. Orin would be home soon, and then they could talk about things. But for the time being, she figured that she should at least try to catch up on her homework. Being a vigilante meant that she had to work extra hard to keep up. But it was worth it. It was always worth it. |
