"You do," she replied frostily, the hint of a smirk curling her lips. It was the closest she ever came to smiling, and for a moment she almost looked as if she were. However, there was a haughty arrogance in her steel gray eyes that kept the expression from being any expression of joy. No, it was a statement of just how clever she was. "And sometimes you succeed." If she were the sort to laugh, she would have just then.
At his compliment, she wrinkled her nose. "Stop that," she snapped, shifting uncomfortably. Her gaze flicked around the room, checking to ensure that nobody shared his opinion. She turned her back on most of the room, holding her drink in both hands with careful fingertips. "Your gifts are lovely this evening. I am but the frame on which they are displayed." Which was an unsettling thought. "Mannequins are not lovely, and so neither am I."
