He smiled and he laughed, because it was impossible not to with Genny. That was the wonder and magic of her, her ability to bring out a smile even in the somber Tristan and the bitchy Varian, and Azrael adored her for it. When they were children, she was always the one with a ready hug and a brightly colored band-aid for scrapes, the one who always marched to the beat of her own eccentric drummer.
"I missed you too, beautiful," he said, and he meant it.
He stepped away, slipped her from his arms when they were both breathing quickly and flushed. "I think I need a drink now," he said, motioning to Genny's forgotten champagne flute (mostly spilled now). "Don't shock anyone once I'm gone," he said with a fond smile, and then kissing her cheek he slipped between the dancers, off in search of the bar.
