Who: Kat What: Hate Crimes and getting patched up Where: Outside a Russian Grocer -> Gideon’s Apartment When: 3/15 early morning through night of the blackout Warnings: Hate Crimes
Tuesdays were typically her day to go grocery shopping. Katya had found a quaint Russian grocery store that provided her with many ingredients and recipes that were typically only found in Russia. It was easily her favorite place to shop, and after becoming friendly with the proprietor, Katya could always been seen on Tuesday mornings doing her shopping. This Tuesday was no different. By 10am, Katya was at the grocery store, walking up and down the aisles to pick what she wanted for the week. It took her all of an hour to finalize her purchases, and she left the store with a happy smile on her face, waving good bye to the owner before heading out on her walk home, two grocery bags in each hand.
The route she took home was the exact same route she always took. This time, however, it was different. Just as she was turning the corner, Katya was confronted with three muscular teenagers, probably around 18. They stood in front of her, barring her way. She hadn’t noticed them at first and ran into them by accident. “Oh, forgive me!” she exclaimed warmly, offering them a kind smile.
“We don’t forgive Commie sluts like you,” the leader sneered, crossing his arms across his chest. He nodded his head toward the alley that was just a few steps down the street. “Why don’t we take this conversation elsewhere?” he asked, though it wasn’t so much a question because as he spoke, the other two men moved to Kat’s sides and gripped her forearms tightly.
“Who are you? What do you want from me?” Katya asked, narrowing her eyes at them. They were only three, so she allowed herself to get directed into the alleyway. It would cause less problems if there weren’t any witnesses to her powers. The moment they were in the alley, the two holding her pushed her roughly against the wall. Katya braced herself for the impact as best she could, but ended up dropping the grocery bags.
The leader stalked forward, putting his hand around her throat, holding her against the wall. Katya narrowed her eyes at him. “Relax, Red. We’re just going to rough you up a bit,” he informed her cheerily. “If you’re lucky, that is,” he added, laughing with his two friends. Katya let her emotions get the better of her and spit at him. The action only served to piss him off, which meant the grip around her neck tightened. She strained against him, and as he smirked, Katya did too. In the next instant, she brought her leg up in a swift kick, connecting with the teenager’s groin. The grip around her neck was removed instantly as the boy backed away, doubling over.
Katya grinned triumphantly. “Do not use such words referring to me. I am Katya, not ‘Red’ or ‘Commie’. Do not make an enemy out of me,” she warned them, smirking at the leader who was just rising to his feet. He didn’t seem pleased at all, and stepped out into the street. Katya turned to the two boys holding her and arched an eyebrow. They looked at each other for a moment, before pulling her away from the wall and practically throwing her against it again. This time, she hit her head and had to close her eyes for a moment to regain her focus.
When she opened her eyes again, the leader was back with three more men that were much bigger than the first three. “You brought more friends for one girl?” she taunted them. The leader slapped her then, clear across the face. Katya saw the move coming and turned her head to the side to try and lessen the impact of the blow. It worked to an extent, and she was dizzy for a few moments. The two clowns holding onto her took that opportunity to throw her onto the floor before they all surrounded her. She took a few moments to catch her breath, and the group allowed her to get on her feet again.
Katya turned in a full circle, sizing each of them up in turn. Adrenaline was flowing through her veins, and she was ready to fight. Training was educational, and going out at night provided her with an application of those techniques that she had learned, but she also had the assistance of her powers. With so many people, Katya was hesitant to use her ability, at least in an obvious way. Six on one was never good odds, but she felt she could handle them. She faced the leader with a hard glint in her eye. Getting into her defensive stance, Katya was ready for the challenge. She didn’t care why anymore, all she wanted was to dispatch the creeps surrounding her and continue on her day.
The leader merely smirked and flicked his gaze to the man behind Kat, which alerted her to his movement. She ducked, pulling the man from behind her by the arm, throwing him over her shoulder. He landed with a thud on the pavement at the leader’s feet and she smirked. With an angry growl, he motion for the two on the side of her to attack. Katya turned to the bigger of the two, charging at him. He caught her in his arms, pinning her hands flat against his chest between them. Katya smirked, hidden though it was, and let her ability loose with a low impact blast coupled with a thrust of her own. The result sent him stumbling back and Kat was able to jump up into a spinning kick, knocking the man to his knees. Before she could finish him off, the second of the two threw a punch that connected with her back, right between her shoulder blades. The pain and force caused her to fall to the ground on all fours, and the man took the opportunities to haul her up by her hair, roughly.
Katya clenched her teeth, doing her best to not give him the satisfaction of knowing he was causing her pain. Her hands went up to claw at his, which left her front wide open. The first of the two was back on his feet, looking mighty pissed and ready to exact his revenge. Before she had even registered the movement, his fist connected with her ribs, knocking the wind out of her. She coughed, but was unable to bend over with the grip still on her hair. She did drop her hands though, to protect herself somewhat, but it did little good. After a few moments, Katya clenched her teeth and pulled her head forward, doing her best to ignore the pain as she got him off balance. She rocked one arm back, catching the guy on the side hard enough to make him let go of her hair. She spun on her feet and kicked him hard, causing him to fall to the pavement. She kicked him once more, this time swiftly in the stomach to incapacitate him. She turned to the second of the two with a ferocious look on her face. He charged at her, but she was prepared. She twisted to the side at the last second, and his speed didn’t allow him to slow down too much so he ended up hitting the wall with a bit of a crunch.
That left three more. The two that were left besides the leader were somewhat large, but Katya was determined now. The adrenaline helped her muscle through the pounding of her head and the pain in her right side, but in the back of her mind, she knew she’d pay for this later. She focused on the smaller of the two and it took a good ten minutes for him to be on the floor with the rest of his friends. The leader was starting to look nervous, but there was still one man between them. Katya moved toward him, but in a move not unlike Gideon’s, she was pinned with her arm behind her back. A frustrated growl escaped her throat and, instead of waiting to see what would happen next, she forcefully tore her arm away from him. It caused some damage to her arm, but she didn’t feel it right away. Instead, she punched him, catching him right in the jaw. There was an audible crack as she at least fractured the jaw bone.
“What the fuck? You fucking Ruskie. What is your problem?” the leader asked, clearly very upset by the fact that she had worked her way through the five men. Katya advanced on the man, backing him up against a wall.
“I have no problem,” she growled, “but you seem to have a number of problems.” Katya allowed her emotions to flow outward, and it was obvious she was incredibly pissed off. “I do not ever want to hear of something like this happening again or I will find you and you will pay,” she threatened. Placing both of her hands on either side of him against the wall, she hefted her knee up, connecting with his groin. “Are we understood?” The man fell to the ground, and he was barely able to wheeze. “Good,” was her only reply.
Once she realized they were all incapacitated, Katya backed up against the opposite alley wall, breathing heavily. She didn’t understand why these people would have chosen to attack her, and she wondered briefly if it was because of her alignment with the vigilantes, even though they hadn’t said anything about her nighttime activities. As she started to calm down, the adrenaline that had been running through her dissipated, which left her feeling fatigued and in pain. She winced as she tried to bring her arms up around her and she knew something was wrong. Tears formed in the corners of her eyes as she collected herself, leaving the strewn groceries on the floor of the alley, and began walking.
About twenty minutes later, she found herself on Gideon’s doorstep. Katya bit her lip and took a leap of faith, knocking lightly on his door. She needed help, and she knew he could provide that for her.
