By the time Katya got off work, it was past midnight. She was certainly quite tired, but as she walked home, she knew she wouldn't be able to sleep. Work had been interesting that night, and Kat had earned quite a bit in tips. She hadn't forgotten her last conversation with Gideon, and the comments he had made about what sort of girl she appeared to be. She didn't like his observation, but over the past few days she realized the merit in it. Her body was often shown off to the world, but Kat had never had a problem with that; there was nothing wrong with showing off the body she had, right? Plus it shouldn't have mattered how comfortable she was in her body, or whether or not she realized just how provocative she acted or dressed.
The anger that was starting to build up inside her, indignant and righteous, caused a shift deep inside her. Her hands balled into fists, and after a few moments she recognized that force building in her palms. Suddenly, she was unsure and anxious, not wanting to display her powers on the streets like that. Kat closed her eyes and took deep, calming breaths. The force waned, and disappeared altogether after a few minutes. When she opened her eyes, she felt wide awake. She knew she wouldn't be sleeping for a while yet, and with nothing else to do, and Gideon still on her mind, she decided to go visit the Paint Ball field.
Kat recalled where the field was and slid into one of the few passing cabs still running so late at night. The cabbie got her there in just about ten minutes, though he gave her an odd look for getting out at a closed paint ball place. Kat merely handed him some cash and wished him a good night before watching him drive off. Once he was out of sight, Kat trailed along the parameter of the property and found the opening into the forest. With an excited smile, Kat slipped off her heels and ran through the forest toward the paint ball field. She came across the various targets and smiled. It was perfect.
Kat dropped her shoes and purse off to the side and took a defensive stance in front of a cluster of boulders, recalling those feelings that had caused the force to build up in her palms. Carefully, she aimed her palms at the boulders and released that force after she felt the pressure hit the bursting point. She missed the center of the cluster, hitting the boulder to the left just off to the side.
The first run was slightly disappointing, but Katya kept at it for over an hour, working on her aim from a fixed point.
