He didn't quite startle, but he did look up sharply. He'd clearly thought he was alone, and it took him a moment to adjust to the company, and to catch up to what he was saying. "You can tell that from all the way up here?" he asked, with a touch of skepticism.
He looked down at the pale bodies of the teenagers. "Depends," he said. "If no one is waiting for you to make putting yourself back together worthwhile, death would be a better option." He leaned his forearms on the rail, still looking down. "Either way, they'll never be the same. Not after whatever did...that."
