Mornings usually started calmly, with Evie heading out for her new habit of a morning run. She was stopped by the scene, the people gathered outside, and while those running about made it hard for her to get a good look, it wasn't hard to see what was going on.
She tucked her arms in around herself, hands tucked into the sleeves of her hoodie, and she watched in silence.
Finally, she moved to sit on the edge of the curb, arms around her knees, watching everyone mill around, the rusty scent of blood hanging in the air. She felt a little ill, a little nauseous that anything like this was even possible, but the world was dark, the world was hard, and things like this did happen. Sighing, Evie put her hands to her face and hunched forward. She'd move.
