Re: [Bathos]
Austin was not a heavy sleeper. Though he adhered to strict schedules and usually didn't wake up before seven, the sounds of voices and cars outside his apartment complex woke him early. He walked to the window, surprised at the crowd he saw before he noticed the two boys in the center of it all, bloody and hurt. Warda was easily recognizable; she was taking control of the entire situation. Good. People needed someone capable of giving them orders.
Throwing on a zip-up hoodie and a pair of tennis shoes, Austin grabbed a few useful things from around his apartment - tweezers, bags, gloves, among others - and hurried outside.
He arrived before the medical team, pushing through the crowds of people with purpose. While everyone wrung their hands and wondered what to do, they made way for the ones who presented a cool, collected exterior. Austin was no leader, but it was obvious he had an idea of what to do.
Passing by Warda, he paused. "If anyone gets anywhere near these children, shoot them," he said quietly, but there was no joking tone in his voice. "I will not have idiots contaminating my crime scene." It really was his crime scene, at least until someone more qualified showed up. The police might run it, but the bodies - even if they were living - were his.
