Police lights and ambulances weren't anything new outside Hamartia. Neither were bleeding people either, not really. So it was full sunrise before anyone was called there, before any sound of trouble reached Wren's second story window. She glanced outside, rubbing the sleep from her eyes, and it was the bright red blood on the dull gray concrete that caught her attention. That alone wouldn't have gotten her downstairs, but the fact that it looked like the victims were young teenage girls did.
Pajama pants and a man's shirt later, she was standing outside the building with the growing crowd of people who smelled of smoke and drugs and sex and mornings. Life in Hamartia wasn't sweet and fresh and clean, but this was different - even for them.
