It wasn't strange growing up in Musings to hear stories like the ones she told, even if he hadn't lived there long enough to have one that stretched over decades. "Sounds like a full life," he said. French castles and WWII - his life up until two years ago hadn't been anywhere near as interesting.
He thought over her question for a moment. "Nothing really," he said. "Growing up there wasn't much money to spare, but I never minded it. I graduated high school, I stayed close to home. I moved here almost two years ago now because it felt like something I ought to do." There was truth in that beyond what he said, and it showed a little. "I don't have a story anywhere near as interesting as yours. I'm boring, really. Now, this view," he said, looking out over the city, "Is one I can enjoy." He he'd had similar chances to look out over everything in his time cleaning up the streets at night, climbing to the tops of buildings without fear of falling, heights, or death.
