Eli was sick unto death of Blake's mocking, and drunk as he was, it was even more infuriating (and hurtful) than when he was sober. "That was unnecessary," he said, voice raising just a touch above the music. "Does it make you feel more a man, I wonder, to constantly remind me of what you two do?" he asked, and there was sting in the slurred words. He believed the things Blake said - that much was certain. He turned his attention to Preston, registering the misery on his face through the haze of drink. "If I'm unwanted, I can make myself scarce."
